PET Scan
What is the time you should wait from your last chemo treatment to your PET scan? Does anyone know this?

My treatments were every 4th
My treatments were every 4th week or once a month. My Onc scheduled mine on the 3rd week following my last treatment. Does this make sense? My scan was clear, no activity, but I still completed the treatment the next week for good measure.

I finished chemo 2009 in July. The Pet Scan was in Sept, Remission!!!! Hope you hear the same great word:)
Treatments were scheduled every 15 days (ABVD), the last being on March 17/11. The PET scan was done on May 25/11. My friend who is a doctor, not a heamotolist told me that it was too soon and it should be a least 3 months after the last treatment. My oncology nurse told me back in March that I should not counting the weeks of my chemo being finished until two weeks after the last treatment. If this is correct, there has only been one day short of 8 weeks. I am waiting to hear the results of my scan-hopefully today!!0 -

Hi,
I have never had a PET scan yet....just CT-scans.I finished my 6th and final round of CVP-R chemo on Dec.14th,2010 and had my follow up CT-scan on January 18th,2011. Results showed STABLE, not remission. Had another CT-scan done on April 13th and results were the same. My Onc said if no new lumps appear and I have no new symptoms or problems, I wouldn't need another one until January 2012. He felt my Rituxan maint infusions would more than likely put me in remission. I guess that means I won't really know until next January if I'm in remission, but the way I look at it...no new tumors or problems between now and then, probably means the Rituxan is doing what it's suppose to do. Stable or remission is ok with me...either way, I'm still here and thats what matters. I'll be keeping positive thoughts for "GOOD" results on your scan results today. Let us know what you find out. Much love...Sue (FNHL-2-3A-6/10)0 -

My last treatment was on July 21st and they did my PET Scan exactly 4 weeks later, then every 3 months since then. I hope you find the answer you are looking for! God Bless, Tracie0 -

Hi - I've had 3 PETs following chemo and each was 4 weeks after. Believe the theory is that chemo is still in your body for up to 6 months after your last chemo. They want to wait at least a month in order to give the drugs a chance to help your body a bit more than doing the scan right away.0 -

Hi
If the chemo being in your body for 6 months after treatment(I have heard this too), is it still working for all that time? Any idea?0 -

Hi,
As I understand it..."yes' it does continue to work, at least thats what my Oncologist told me. I'm sure thats the reason we continue to feel tired and not quite ourselves for so long after we finish our last round. Take care...Sue (FNHL-2-3a-6/10)0 -

Thanks for responding. With that answer then from your oncologist, the very small spots that showed up on the PET scan still have a chance of disappearing completelty.Keeping my fingers crossed.0
