sore tongue
Hi,
In my case it hurts because in addition to the surgury I had radiation and the radiation has burnt it and it has not recovered yet. It stings in response to trying to eat some foods.
Also, extremly sensitive to mint as in toothpaste or mouthwash or gum. Even alcohol free mouthwash is more than I can handle.

I am new and I don't know whether I am responding the right way. Should I be clicking reply on your message or post comment.

Why does my tongue hurt?
I dunno why it still hurts, but it does. I only had 30 rads. I don't know if having no left salivary gland going in made it worse or not. My mouth was a trainwreck, my docs said pretty much the worst they'd ever seen with rads side effects. Also I have a genetic blood disorder as well, and that might be why I had a harder time with radiation and why my recovery was slower, and why I'm not like I was before all this mess.
My tongue feels scalded all the time, like I just burned it on some scalding hot coffee. It's also scarred on the left side. I cannot stick my tongue out, roll my R's, whitsle, roll my tongue, or talk like I used to. It is still very sensitive to salt, pepper, toothpaste, mint, alcohol....
There was improvement the first year as far as my mouth healing, but I feel like it has felt the same for this whole last year. About a 2/3 on a pain scale of 1 - 10 everyday.
I hope one day it won't hurt anymore, too. I am glad that yours doesn't hurt after what you have been through. I had a biopsy under my tongue, and that hurt. I cannot imagine what you went thru.
Blessings,
Sweets0
