PET Scan Results / Liver Resection

My Mom's PET Scan results showed the (2) spots on her liver have continued to shrink as a result of the 8 rounds of chemo she received. All in all, this is the news we wanted to hear.

She met with the liver dr. today and will have an MRI to make certain that there are only (2) spots and will have liver resection at the end of the month. I'm told the surgery is about 6 hours and recovery time is about 6 - 8 weeks. Just looking for any feedack on anyone who has had a liver resection.

    Hi Liz, I had my 2nd resection on the 24th. just got home today. My fisrt lasted 5 hours and this one 3. I had a small tumor caught early.
    For me the surgery is not too bad. recovery is 6-8weeks. My bowels/ bladder seemed to like the deep sleep so it caused a bit of ruckus trying to get them awake. I did not have this with the first one. I was in the hospital so long, they took the staples out before i left.If you want to PM me feel free.
    The first was followed by 6 months of chemo. I don't think that is the plan this time.

    had one three years ago
    I had a liver resection three years ago. I was in surgery about 6-1/2 hrs to remove 55% of my liver and my gallbladder (which was only removed because it would have been left hanging by a thread due to the part of the liver that was resected). The first couple of days in the hospital, I felt like I was never going to be able to sit up again on my own, but of course that didn't last. They get you up walking that very next day. I would say, yes, the recovery is about 6-8 weeks. After that, I felt pretty good.

    I did not get any follow-up (adjuvent) chemo after my surgery. I was naive about these things then & did not know to question my oncologist when he didn't even mention chemo. I did since have a recurrence- maybe that could have been avoided if I had the follow-up chemo. Now I am also a lot more knowledgeable about options and also natural/holistic things that can be done- eating the right cancer fighting and immune system boosting foods (and some supplements) I think could be very helpful. I am doing that now, but did nothing like this back then. I am convinced it would have made a positive difference.

    Hi Lisa, i felt the same way
    Hi Lisa, i felt the same way you did. i had a colon resection with no follow up chemo. the beast came back. so liver resection followed by 6 months of chemo. the beast came back again. this liver resection they said no chemo. so i don't know if there is a right answer.
    I spent a lot of time blaming my dr. for not giving me chemo originally. right now i am very busy eating my words.
