half way thru IMRT

in Prostate Cancer #1
half point today of 36 treatments. doing well except my anus is really getting sore. i bought some charmin freshmates which really helps. any tips for the soreness?

    Glad to hear that you are doing well. You do not elaborate on the symptom but I think that the pain may be for your position on the stretcher.
    Nevertheless, you should inform the staff at the clinic about the symptom.
    How about restrictions, any details on the procedure?
    Soon you will be free from that “bandit”.

    hydro cortisone
    i had a chance to talk to the doctor today about the soreness. he recommended hydro cortisone cream so i got some. it has helped. i want to let others know that a considering IMRT treatment some of my problems as i'm sure they are common.

    You seem to be doing very well. I had 38 IMRT treatments last year and had the same problem you are having. Doc gave me an ointment called Aquaphor that also helped a lot. That pretty much was the only problem i had the whole time. It went away a couple of weeks after the last treatment. Hope yours turns out just as good as mine did.

    I'll echo that. I finished 38 treatments on April 1. I didn't get sore to the point of needing a topical treatment but I did get a littl sore nonethless. Flushable moist wipes helped as did the nurse's recommendation to skip the fresh produce, nuts, whole grains and other high-fiber stuff for a while. It felt funny because I'd recently amended my diet to include more of all of these and now I had to back off for a while. It seemed to work though. A week after completion, I was tolerating everything again. Hang in there, vader. It's a good feeling walking out of there on the last day, although I do still miss the crew that worked with me everyday. Amazing the camaraderie you develop with a caring and helpful staff.

    FINISHING IMRT
    I had that same feeling when i finished the 38 treatments. It really bothered me when i left.
    They had me feeling so special i couldn't believe it. Friends look at me like i was a nut case not being glad to get out after 38 radiation treatments. Could not explain it well enough. Went back for my 6 month check up and they acted like i was their long lost brother.
    Something i will never forget.
