    Welcome Tracy!
I'm happy & sorry to meet you simultaneously! I am glad you found this discussion board & I hope you are calling yourself a survivor because YOU ARE A SURVIVOR!

I caught the rerun of the Dr. Oz show & liked what he said "Have your doctor prove to you that you DON'T have ovarian cancer!" I also like how he is empowering women to trust themselves because women know their own body better than any doctor.

I feel the same way Sheri
I had mild indigestion, bloating and a full feeling but I didn't go to the doctor for a month. I was a very healthy person and as I've said on here before, my primary said I was one of her healthiest patients. I find it strange that I had no pain. I had three fairly large tumors and the cancer was wrapped around my ovaries, appendix, etc. Cancer is not common in my family. I refuse to blame myself for what I didn't notice or may have missed. The women on Dr. Oz made it seem like they noticed symptoms, went to the doctor and now they are fine. I hope they are but they didn't talk about their treatment or the little thing called recurrance. I think the whole topic was oversimplified even though I am grateful for the exposure. So, Sheri, I think we just need to continue to concentrate on staying healthy and enjoying the life we have right now. It's all anyone can do. I also think Dr. Oz should read this message board sometime.

    I did, Carlene.
I thanked him for discussing ovarian cancer but urged him to do more shows and tell the whole story. I also suggested he check out this board. He might really learn something here.

Saw the fleeting ribbon Carlene! I agree with these comments. I NEVER had a symptom, I had a kidney stone and the mass on the ovary was seen on the ct scan. I don't want to see a doom and gloom show but I do agree that it made me feel that I did not "listen to my body"
The detecting tests will probably never be covered by insurance; even Pap tests have been reduced with Medicare. I just wish we could have a monumental march, funding, etc for all Cancers. Sorry just a bit twisted after seeing the show, but thank you Carlene for bringing it to our attention. Something is better than Nothing!

along the lines of what ssbeari, kikz and some others said
Although it's good if the Oz Show information was useful to someone/anyone, it left me in tears and angry.

Then again, so many things do, these days (she said wryly).

To me, peeing a bit more often (the only symptom on his show of which I could possibly be "guilty") was merely one more step on the road to aging. Apparently that makes me deaf to the whispers of my body.

Plus, I'm a tea drinker, a strict vegetarian (knew how to pronounce Quinoa before it was fashionable), a Pill-popper (more than 15 years), and on and on. So since I still wound up with Stage IIIC clear cell, obviously I'm a freak, an alien mutant...

    ...or I'm just not WORTHY.

I don't believe that, so please don't think I'm looking for reassurances. Ticks me off that some TV personality can make me cry, even for a few minutes. That's all.

Maybe the show helped others; I sincerely hope so.

    Not even a whisper
Sheri, Karen, Verna & anyone else feeling like they "didn't listen to their bodies:

Please don't blame yourselves for not listening when there were no "early warning" symptoms to hear. Let's all fill up the Dr. Oz web site with comments so he understands that he's just begun with the subject & not done!

And isn't that a photo of NCEllen on that ribbon?

    Did you have early symptoms,
Did you have early symptoms, Rosemarie? I didn't. I had no symptoms until just a couple of weeks before my diagnosis. I did have one severe bout of constipation about 4 or 5 months before my cancer was found, but it resolved itself within a matter of hours. Who goes to the doctor with that kind of complaint? No one I know.

What were your symptoms, and when did they start?

    Carlene

    My symptoms
I had my first sympton sometime in Feb 2006. I started to bloat in my belly area and over the course of about 3 weeks, had to have my unitform pants let out. I gained 35lbs and was not eating normal. Sometimes I would wake up with a sore back but that was only once in a while. I was scheduled for my regular OB/GYN appt in July 2006 and thought it best to go sooner.
I guess I needed to be hit with a "rock" in my head to have gone in Feb.

    No symptons at all
    Hello, friends,

I am new here. My name is Tracy. I didn't have any sympton before I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer stage IIIC. A result from my annual paps mear came back with carcinoma detected. It took over a month for my family doctor and OBGYN to figure out it is OC. I had surgery in December 2009, had 8 Carbo/Toxel treatment. CA 125 was still at 40 range, and doctor put me on Toxel maintanance until January 2011. And last month, April 2011, CA125 elevated to 175 and PET scan confirmed with finding. I am thinking about taking clinical trial Doxil + AMG386, or HIPEC surgery. Anyone has idea or experience?

Just want to introduce myself to the forum and looking forward to knowing all of you so we can exchange info and support!

    Best wishes to all...

    Tracy

    Clinical Trials
    Hi Tracy,
Welcome. I too am new to this site. Everyone is so understanding and helpful. I am also thinking about clinical trials. I had OV in March 2006. My surgeon said she got it all and was pleased. Nothing in the lymph nodes. I had another 3 chemos when I healed up. I was cancer free with CA125 tests every 6 months (between 4 and 8). Then all of a sudden in January of this year it jumped to 175, and kept on going up weekly.
So now I am back on Carbo and my CA125 is very slowly droppping.
I am told I should feel good that I was cancer free for very close to 5yrs, Boy, that time sure went by fast.
