Liver Resection
I'll be praying all goes well with your resection. I had a few challenges following my surgery in October - had fluid around my lung which took a few days to take care of. Also had a pulmonary embolism a month later which put me behind in my treatment. However, I would do it all over again without question. Started another 8 rounds of chemo in December. I would recommend coumadin or lovenox following the surgery as a precaution. Good luck!0 -
Hi Pat...I hope your surgery
Hi Pat...I hope your surgery goes great and you recover quickly and easily. I have a question for you? Where was your original tumor at diagnoses? And had it gone anywhere else? I know you mentioned lymph nodes. Thanks...take care....you're going to do great!

update
I had surgery June 1st. No resection. Did lapsocp., thought it was doable, so started, but got dicey and put liver back and closed up..Good news, left side is not cancer. Just an update, came home Monday afternoon, feel like crap, but you all go thru so much I will save my complaints. Board met Tuesday, I see the surgeon 6/16, onc 7/1. I have no desire at this time to talk about next steps, I just have to heal/survive this surgery. I have not caught up on any posts, too tiring, but has anyone had failed resection???? Any recoup suggestions. Recommended stool softner, never needed that before. I am sure I will have some questions coming up...just an update" 68 survives failed live resection" so far....love life....Pat0 -

Hi, Pat, I just had my 2nd liver resection on 5/24. Am still recuperating. They think ths 2nd tumor was left from first resection. the dr. said he couldn't do any more to the liver and hoped he got rid of it.
Anyway, my best advice to you is just rest, use the stool softener if needed. straining causes hernias. Or in my case a weakened wall. Now i have this extra lump sticking out.
The last one was followed by chemo, this time the doc said probably not. I see him monday, so i will know more then.
All in all, the surgery is not so bad, again, the biggest thing is not over do. I had an epidural which really controlled the pain. The worst was just trying to get up or roll over. It all passes, so good luck to you. My prayers are with you,

like Judy I have had 2 resections....I used stool softener for sure....for quite a while...the abs are so sore you don't want to be pushing....
lots of rest, lots of fluids and I really did increase my protein intake....you need those buildingblocks to heal the tissues...
I tried to walk some every day.....I took a painkiller if I needed it....
I used a lot of tapes for relaxation and imaging....I would fall asleep in the afternoon listening to guided imagery about healing....I got my tapes or discs from the local library.
very best of luck

They did open me up and manhandled my liver, but had blood pressure drop and it was pretty imbedded, so they put it back and closed me up..all your comments are helpful........if you guys did two maybe I need to look around for other surgeons......wow can't believe I said that just took a pain meds...have about 40 stitches.....I'll catch up in a couple of days with all the old comments I have missed, that's all for now.......Pat0 -

I go tomorrow to see surgeon. Still feel crappy. I developed diaherra which is more the norm with me since this jouney started. lomotil, light diet, help what else..assume stiches come out tomorrow, since it is two weeks. will listen to him and see what else is offered. see onc 7/6......moving pretty good, just crappy. take shots each day for blood thin, nexium, lomotil, just startet an ativan and vicodin/ultram when needed..how does that sound....liver area is pretty sore/somewhat swollen.....how everyone doing.....Pat0 -
