I don't find the weight loss a problem. What worries me is why. The first thing I worry about is if this thing has spread. I know it probably hasn't but I can't help thinking it.0 -

Sue,
How long have you been losing weight? Did you change your thyroid replacement hormone dose? Did this start in February post-surgery or before? How much weight?
Without knowing the answers to the above, I'd guess it's becuase your dose is making you somewhat hyperthyroidal. Are you having any other hyper thyroid symptoms? If the only symptom you have is weight loss, I wouldn't worry.
Of course, you SHOULD talk to your endocrinologist about this.

Ok you are on Cytomel are they planning on doing RAI treatment on you?
Normally they put people on synthroid for long term since it build up and it is easier to stabilize you on whereas Cytomel levels change quickly

I am hyperthyroid (TSH of .4) and not loosing weight. I am not gaining either, so that's good. It seems that my body is at a standstill. No matter what I eat or how much I exercise, I can't budge the scale. This sucks!
I have a feeling that Cytomel works differently than Synthroid. I do remember when I started on Cytomel after my TT I was very shaky like I had Parkinson's disease and I did loose a bit of weight. I thought it was because I didn't eat as much after the surgery because of the lump feeling in my throat. Could have been the Cytomel.

liothyronine sodium is t3 synthetic (Cytomel or Tertroxin, depending on your country)
levothyroxine sodium is t4 synthetic(Eltroxin, Levothroid, Levoxyl, Synthroid, and Unithroid)
Armour is normaly Desiccated Pig Thyroid (both T3 and T4)(also has T1 and T2 in it)
Thyrolar (Liotrix) T3 and T4 synthetic
in a healthy person 80% of the T3 in the body comes from T4 (20% by thyroid) so most doctors dont feel T3 replacement is nessary
---cut and paste ---
What About T2 and T1 – What Do They Do?
Both of these hormones are supplied as part of natural thyroid hormone therapy (taken from animal glands), but do not form part of standardised medical treatment, because many doctors feel they play no role in the metabolic processes.
Until recently T1 and T2 were thought to play a role only as part of the conversion process, with no actual effect of their own. However, T2 has been found to have a stimulatory effect on the activity of the enzyme that converts T4 to T3; in other words, it helps in the vital conversion process. It is also effective in increasing liver metabolism, and the metabolism of the heart, muscle tissue and “brown fat” (the fat that is burned away, rather than stored in the body). (1) T2 can also help in the breakdown of fat, while not breaking down muscle, which has made this hormone a popular tool for weight loss and body-building, despite a lack of government accreditation.
------
t3 is quick acting
t4 is slower acting and is converted to t3 as your body needs it

I was worried too that it was the meds or maybe chemo. I've lost almost 100 lbs if not more. I couldn't eat no more than two bites of food or maybe half a sandwich. I finally went to a GI doctor last week. He did a colonoscopy on Tuesday and found that I had pockets of infection in my large intestine. So far, I've been able to eat a whole sandwich. Now I'm just hoping I won't gain my weight back:) Best of luck to you.

@ Veronica - Did he tell you what the pockets of infection are ... It sounds to me like Diverticulitis.
Personally I have become a lot more interested in the body and how it should but doesn’t work since I started "The Battle" and became a survivor.

It is called diverticulitis or losis. No he didn't and I'm right back where I started. I can't eat again. I'm glad you're a survivor. I'm still doing chemo and my onco says my cancer will never go away.0
