peg tube and diarrhea

Hello all

Hope everyone is doing well.

My father has been on pegtube for several months. He has been experiencing diarrhea and has also not seen much increase in weight. The doctors are waiting on scans post surgery as he still has a lot of swelling from his mandibulectomy and reconstruction.


Any advice? Thougts? Experiences?

    mean while this post and now, i just got a call saying that he actually has an infection hence the diarrhea. hopefully that should get him back on track

    I don't see the cause and effect
    having been on a totally liquid diet of jevity through the peg tube I never experienced diarrhea. I would guess the opposite is more common, or rather constipation because of antibiotics and pain medication slowing things down. With a mandibulectomy I am surprised he is doing so well as you state, "not much increase in weight" The fact that there is any weight gain whatsoever is a small miracle. I would look elseware for the cause of the diarrhea other than the peg tube. It's most likely a medication side effect????????

    thanks for the reply. just found out he has some kind of an infection in the stomach. and he is prescribed some antibiotics for it.
