Tamoxifen

in Breast Cancer #1
Hi.. new here and new with cancer ILC Stage 2? so far.. waiting for surgery date.... the waiting is unberable! I was told by oncologist is probably I will not need chemo, but I will be on Tamoxifen... someone has done that? something to learn... please everything is new and well.... kind of scary...

    Yes, Scary it is. I am on Tamoxifen now for over a year. For me it's not so bad. I get hot flashes and well I just learn to deal with them. I was told this is one of a few very good drugs for cancer. As far as the surgery I had a lumpectomy, followed by chemo and Rads and the whole packaged deal. Look, It is all doable. Try not to worry to much (easier said then done ) I know. You will get through it. No chemo is a big plus. Follow everything your doctor tells you to do and take your time getting back into the swing of things. We are always here for ya.

    I love your screen name. Yes you are strong. You are joined here by many strong women who will give you information that will allow you to worry less than you would without the information. I can't speak to Tamoxifen but just wanted to say welcome.

    Hi - No chemo is nice. This is the hardest part, yet it is so much different from years ago. People hanlde it and go thru it ok. I too was told needed to be on Tamoxifin, but still doing my research on this drug as I harvested my eggs...and need my uterus. But, my health comes first - and always remember, your health is important, so listen to your Drs., and if you need second opinions, go for it. There are so many people here that can help answer any questions too.

    Good luck to you. Please let us know how you do, and when surgery will be scheduled for.

    Wow, I never thought that support groups will be good... never needed one ;)) but this is great, just to know that someone really understand you are going trough... this is a blessing... love your welcome. I will keep in touch... need it ;))

    I was reading about Tamoxifen and well is better than cancer ha! so.... still waiting for results and results... I will post the date of my surgery... good thing my sister who is cancer survivor will be here with me yaaay! that is a great plus ;))

    I started Tamoxifen last
    I started Tamoxifen last September. My main side-effects are fatigue, some hot flashes, some leg and foot cramps, and moodiness. I can cry at the drop of a hat sometimes. From songs on the radio, tv commercials, family saying something stupid to me... That's about it. I still get somewhat of a period. My PMS symptoms seem a little worse. I have not gained any weight from it. The fatigue is the worst symptom for me. I know I need to get out and move, but it's hard for me to get out of my own way. I am 44, so I'm sure natural menopause was approaching soon anyway.
