Email from "Scary Old Woman" Kerry's Wife
I have copied a recent email I got from Kerry's wife Susie. I will copy and paste your posts to my next email to her so if you have a message please know I will get it to her. She does not get on the boards so this way she will get your comments. Take care!
Jennie
Hi Jennie. I just thought I’d let you know that things are going pretty well with me. I can’t tell you how many cards I’ve gotten. People I don’t even know are telling me things that if it hadn’t been for Kerry giving them a job, they would never have the position they have now. This comes from people that worked at two different companies with Kerry. He could always see the good and possibilities in people. Maybe that’s why he married me!
I’ve picked up his ashes and death certificates and he’s resting in the laundry room until 6-19 when we are going to spread his ashes. I’m sure he’s content there because that’s where he kept some tools from the barn for quick fixes in the house. It was always a long walk to the barn just to get a screwdriver or wrench etc. I talk to him all the time about what I’m doing and especially when I don’t know what I’m doing. I ask for advice to get me through another project. The boys have come every weekend helping me and I know it’s rough when they have their own families and homes to take care of, plus living 2 hours away. Dan and I patched and painted two bathrooms plus the ceilings, painted the walls & ceiling in a sitting room and painted a very large 2 story laundry room. I have painted the trim in 2 bedrooms and have one left to do and I will retire my paintbrushes!!!!!
Would you believe that Brad even gave me a new brush for Mother’s Day?
Brad has been the one in charge of mowing the 9 acres that Kerry always kept mowed. He also does the tractor work and that’s only because he hates painting! I paid to have the flashing and caulking done on the chimney because it was too scary and too far up. I also hired a carpenter to fix the large water spot on the tongue & groove ceiling in the great room. It was there for 3 years and Kerry would not fix it (because he hated heights) and he did not want to pay anybody to do it. Well you sure can’t sell a house looking like that. The ceiling was 23 feet high where the water mark was. He had to cut out that section and replace it with new wood. Thank the dear Lord that we had the wood in the barn and there was no mold on the other side! I think the house will go on the market 6-1. I have taken tons of stuff to Goodwill and given things away to anybody who will take it. If you want anything, come on over!
I’d better get moving. My paintbrush is calling me. Please keep in touch and let me know how everybody’s doing. Feel free to share parts of my email with the forum.
Love Susie

Dear Susie,
First, Thank you, Jennie, for posting this.
Dear Susie,
You've probably been hearing this over and over, but Kerry touched many lives including mine. His attitude, strength, and humor have made cancer easier to deal with.
His love for you was clear to all of us here - you were his most prized treasure (yes, even more than his tractor!)
Sending you love and appreciation for sharing such a wonderful man with us. I wish you peace, and that you find joy in your memories.

Awesome
What a wonderful update from Kerry's wife. We do miss him so much. She's right he probably don't care a hoot about being put in the laundry room Glad that she is doing ok and the boys are helping her out. Please keep in touch. It's always good to hear from you.

So glad to hear from you!
Hey, Susie.
I'm so glad to hear how you're doing. I've been thinking about you and praying for you and your family.
My Relay For Life team recently had a talent show fundraiser. I sang a song dedicated to some of our CSN members who have passed away. I shared a little remembrance of each one. Everyone got quite a chuckle when I told them about Kerry and his nicknames for the two of you. I was tickled along with them, but I did shed some tears, too, because your "Old Coot" was very special to me.
*hugs*

Thanks Jennie and Susie
Jennie, thanks for sharing this with us.
Susie, I think Kerry would be so proud of you + the boys too. I know he is watching over you, probabably telling you, "you missed a spot". I miss Kerry a lot + I know this must be so hard for you. He thought the world of you; that was clearly evident. Thanks for letting us know how you are doing. Keep shining.0 -
we will remember kerry
Dear Susie,
I am so sorry for your loss and what a huge loss it is, but thats the nature of life.
I wanted you to know what an impression Kerry made on me with his fantastic attitiude.
A few weeks ago now, around a running track we had our cancer relay for life.
Well in the rememberance section we all buy a little candle, they give you a while paper bag with sand. Around dusk everyone writes the name of a friend or loved one who had passed away from cancer. So we did one for Kerry. My kids asked me who he was, I just said a wonderful old coote, a friend on the internet.
Imagine hundreds maybe thousands doing the rememberance lap. they were walking around this running track in sylvania, sydney Australia. Alongide are also thousands of paper bags with lighted candles and the persons name. Its an amazing sight with all the bags joined together around the inside edge of the running track. I wish I had a photo. It was a lovelly memorial service for so many touched by cancer. Next year health permitting I will be doing the marathon on this track in the relay for life.
I thought it may make you smile, that half way around the world your wonderful husband was fondly remembered on a lovelly night not so long ago. Kerry was so brave.

Thank you, Jennie!
Susie,
Your hubby was a grand inspiration to all of us. And, I see that he also had excellent taste in women!!!!! You sound like me...I'm fixing up my mom's house before selling it...the difference? She had not done any major work for almost 20 years!!!! YIKES!!! So, I raise my paintbrush to you!!!
You and I have a challenging year of firsts ahead of us....I will keep you in my thoughts, and hope that you remember during the stressful times, how much Kerry loved you...
Hugs, Kathi0 -

Hi Susie!
I also know why Kerry married you -- you are truly a gem. He had a spirit that can't be matched. He was one of the most vibrant, funny, and sweetest men I've had to pleasure to know through the internet. He loved you so much, even though he "talked" tough, we knew he loved you. He was such a special guy. His inspiration will not be forgotten and he will live on in the hearts of many here. I want to thank you for sharing him with us. He wasn't here long, but he left a big footprint.
Love to you and yours,

Dear Susie,
I'm not sure I can be succinct in what I want to say, or even intelligent enough to say it.
I'm amazed at your strength, but then when I think about how highly Kerry spoke about you, I shouldn't be, you were his rock, his solid foundation, his love.
I miss him so much and I feel selfish in that, because I know you miss him so much more.
He was wonderful, kind, and very humorous, and I thank you from the deepest depths of my heart for allowing him to share those qualities with us.
Peace be with you, and you have our love and caring thoughts always with you.

Jennie,
Thanks for posting this. I tried to reply yesterday, but the darn website kept kicking me out.
Susie,
I often think of you and Kerry. Even though we referred to him as the "ol' coot", it was with much love and respect. You will always be his "scary old woman", and I know he is filled with pride as he watches over you and the boys as you lovingly prepare your home for a new family.
Please take care and keep in touch.

Susie, I knew Kerry for a few months, I started with this wonderful group in October 2010. From the start I get so much strength and wisdom in the fight we do . He added so much encouragement with enjoyment to our daily struggle. Your husband was close to my heart! Bless you and yours for knowing and loving a wonderful man.

Carved in stone is a name I will remember
Skin and bone and a heart that was so tender
Carry on, and have yourself a lovely ride
Think of me when you finally reach the other side
Carved in stone is a date he had to go on
And another, from the moment of his first dawn
Now alone, is someone who can't surrender
To the darkness and sadness this life has sent her
Carry on, and have yourself a lovely ride
Think of me when you finally reach the other side
Hold on tight, to the things you always taught us
Speak out loud, about faith, hope, love, and trust
Carry on, and have yourself a lovely ride
Think of me when you finally reach the other side
