Finally finished with my initial work-ups at UNCCH surgery/treatment plan starts.....
24 May: Surgery to remove tonsils and small area at BOT
25 May-12 June: Heal/convalescent leave
13 June: Start weekly cisplatin/taxol chemo for seven weeks vs. heavy Cisplatin on weeks one, three and seven due to my hearing loss (from 20 years in the Army being around aircraft and weapons/explosives exposure)
13 June: Start daily radiation to right side of throat. They want to wait till post treatment to remove the affected lymphnode(s).
I will keep posting as soon as I am getting over the tonsillectomy.
Wish me luck and keep my and Elsa (jeepman's wife) in your prayers.
My prayers and thoughts to you all,
Mike

Perfect
You fall right in line with most of the rest of us including me. You should feel very confident now with this well-tested battle plan. You have a near 100% chance of success.
As I said a couple of weeks ago, you are in for a couple of months of he!!. June won't be so bad but July will begin to be very bad indeed. But by September you will be beginning to forget about much of it and you will be getting very strong again.
Get out and enjoy now and go to that favorite restaurant and eat that ice cream and have a beer. That's an order. Doug0 -

Thanks for all the support so far...thanks to everyone really. I am still running strong and working (except for this past week with appts in Chapel Hill, NC). I will do my last jump this coming week. Have to come off Airborne status for the surgery/treatment. I am hopeful that god will deliver me from all of this and probably with a very finite focus on the things that matter in life: family, friends, etc....
I will be wake boarding all weekend . Planning on "date night" at Outback for a steak and a Foster's this Friday.

I second that...and all of the above. It's good to have a plan of attack. Soon it will be your turn to kick some cancer butt. Best to you and your wife, she will be your greatest resource when the going gets tough...but you will do great.
Prayers to all,

Chuck,
I couldn't have picked a better woman if I tried. God certainly had a hand in it...just a bit over 20 years ago. She is my soul mate. I couldn't (wouldn't want to) do it without her. I can't wait to start making the cancer pay....
Prayers to you bud, and your family.

I know what you mean Mike, I would always prayer Lord please help me to find a good woman to be my wife. And he did just that, this August it will make 37 years and I love her more today then ever. She is my friend, my companion, my caregiver, and my Wife. I was only 18 when we got married she was 21 but did not know my age until after the wedding. All I can say is God knows how to pick them, but it takes a lot of pray.
All the best to you both, prayers can do miracles
