Tomorrow's the big day

Well, here I go, hopefully into the final round of this crazy game with my nasty cancer. Tomorrow morning I have my neck dissection.....I'm nervous, not so much about the surgery, I kind of know what to expect from that, this isn't my first (never had a neck dissection but had full exploratory on my abdomen and that's some painful stuff right there!). I'm nervous about what they will find when they get in there. Obviously, rads and chemo didn't quite do the trick from what I understand. Sooooo I suppose I'm asking for prayers, for guidance for the doctors, for peace for me and my kiddos and family as they sit in that waiting room, that whatever the outcome is, God's will is done and that I smile and am a blessing to the people around me no matter how much it hurts. And for the record....I plan to win this final round....when you next hear from me, I will be standing with my fists raised to the sky, a huge grin on my (probably swollen) face and my foot pinning this disease to the mat! Ding ding ding...we have a winner folks!
Will update as soon as I can, hugs and blessings to all of you my friends....
Karen

    Twists
While you have that foot on the beasts neck put a little more pressure and twist on it for all of us! You go Girl!

I was told the same, radiation and chemo does not look like they got all of it. When they opened me up it was all scare tissue.

We will be looking for that smile with your update post.

    Surgery
I hope you came through the surgery well and are now beginning the healing process. Buzz had a neck dissection about 9 1/2 years ago and had little pain. He had more pain from the tonsillectomy he had at the same time. Karen

    Just curious, Did you know
Just curious, Did you know you would need surgery right after treatment or did you have to wait until 2 months later after your first scan. My husband finishes his treatment in a few days and the rad doctor told him he thinks the tumor is gone, but can't be sure until they do the scan. Now, they are focusing on the lymphnodes. I am excited and I am starting to think they will get everything from the way the rad doctor talks.

    Surgery
The goal I think is for them to get it all with the radiation and chemo. Surgery is done if they think there's a chance that there's something left. At least that's how I understood it. I got my initial CT scan about 6 weeks out and it showed a mass but they were sure it was scar tissue, ENT wanted surgery, he wasn't so sure. I had surgery yesterday and got the report today that the initial pathology came back clear. I'm so happy you can't even imagine. But in the back of my mind, the word "initial" lingers and I won't sleep easy for a long time I think. The longer I go being "Cancer free", the more I'll rest but I'm pretty sure that if I even get a swollen lymph node, I'll be at the doctors right away! The best thing that you can do is go with the flow. Research your options, do what the doctors and you think are best. Having cancer changes your whole life and the lives of the people that love us (which would be you). Every day further out you get, the better the chances are that it's going or is gone so you have to look at it that way. A day at a time is a day further away from diagnosis. :)

Still praying for you guys and hugs!

    Keep up the fight sister
    Karen,

You just keep your knee in the cancer's neck. It will succumb. I am praying for you and your family's speedy recovery and cancer free life.
