Dad hospitalized and then moved to rehab facility

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new here. My Dad has EC and is 5 weeks post chemo/radiation and trying like hell to bounce back. He isn't getting adequate nutrition and yet again ended up dehydrated and ambulance was called yesterday by Visiting Nurse. Hospital worked him up and found that he was dehydrated, no acute medical reason to keep him. He recieves TPN nutrition as J tube/stomach tube was not a perferred method of nutrition due to underlying health issues.

Hospital wanted to send him home on Ativan to calm him to see if that would allow him to tolerate full feedings. We said NO because alot of drugs give him alterted mental status. My mom said that she can NOT do this any longer. So, now he is headed over to one of the nursing homes for rehab today after an overnight stay at the hospital (unless something changed overnight).

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know. He's still fighting, not ready to give up yet!

    Hopefully a couple of days in a nursing home will help your Dad and give him a bit more strength and also give your Mum a much needed break to recharge her batteries, keep your chin up just like your Dad who as you say is still fighting. Thinking of you and your family.

    Thank you both for your kind words. Unfortunetly Dad is still in the hospital because insurance won't pay for his care in a nursing home because he currently is receiveing TPN nutrition. They are trying to keep him as long as possible in the hospital while working on getting insurance to pay.

    My poor mother is ready for a breakdown. She has a stack of medical bills and then to hear that they won't pay. Wth would they pay for TPN at home but not in a nursing home?
