I had two blood clots in my left leg many years back but the one in my upper thigh they were not concerned with as the one in my calf, it was the clot that could move to my lung and so I had to lay on my back perfectly still for over a month and by God's Grace I came out of that. Blood Clot update
William - thank you so much for making me laugh today...it's been a very trying weekend and your comment about him going to the hospital on Friday made me smile for the first time in the past couple of days. Morphine seems to make Brendon a not so pleasant person and ohh lucky me to get the recourse of the drug.
I emailed Dr. Luketich and Angela at Pittsburgh on Saturday at 4:00 pm. Angela replied by 6 and Dr. Luketich also replied last evening as well. Dr. Luketich will consult w/ the doctor here but as far as he is concerned, surgery is still A GO!!! (Thank you Jesus) Dr. Luketich has reccomended the doctor here inserts a filter in Brendon's aorta since surgery is less than 2 weeks away...that way...if a blood clot does get "loose"...the filter will catch it prior to it going to his heart and lungs.
They won't be putting Brendon on Coumadin (sp?) because it takes 5 days to get out of your system and with surgery so close, once the got the amount regulated, they would have to stop it. He is still in the hospital and is not allowed to stand on his leg. He is still in lots of pain so hopefully in a couple of days the pain will subside... When Brendon does come home, he will take injections of Lovenox BID up until 12 hours prior to surgery.
Yes, the waiting is the worse..so I am thankful this little stepping stone will not delay us and our travels to PA. I'm so ready to find some sense of normalsy...whatever that may be...post-surgery... It's got to be better than now.

I'm not surprised to hear that Angela and Dr. Luketich himself responded to your email on a Sat. It just seems that that's what they do. I wish all doctors were that way,but Dr. Luketich's team is unusual in that regard. So glad to hear that the surgery is still a go for your husband. You've waited long enough. We'll be praying for you and Brendon. Try to take care of yourself right now. You'll need all of your strength when you get to Pittsburgh.
We may see you in Pittsburgh at Shadyside. We'll be there on June 6 for a checkup with Dr. Luketich. I'll look for you!

I am so over emotional these days... Just reading your reply's made me cry. It's so nice knowing that there are people out there...that you have never met in person....that pray as much for you as everyone on this site does. Brings tears to my eyes.

Ashley is 12, straight A student who plays basketball and volleyball. She plays the clarinet and has a band concert tomorrow night.
Kaylee is 10, also plays the clarinet but is a pitcher and 3rd baseman for The Ladybugs. She has a game tomorrow night also.
Adyson is 2, has mastered the word NO, and repeats any slip of the tongue one might make. (not that I know that from experience or anything like that!!! hahaha)
I drove home tonight from KC...with Brendon in the hospital in time to make it to the bottom of the 1st inning of Kaylee's game. They won 13-12!!! Brendon's parents were with him so I took the opportunity to drive back to Wichita to be with the girls for the week before leaving for PA.
I was talking to my sister on the phone yesterday when she asked me......is there a site or support group you could join Susie, with people that are going through the same thing.... I guess she wasn't quite sure what to say to me in-between the tears and frustrations, and stress and any other emotion I have been having lately. I know that Brendon is scared out of his mind...and my patience is wearing thin...BUT...you are right.... We're on the downhill slope now.
So, I just want to say thank you again to all of you that have been my support group. I'm so thankful that I found this place and can find relief just from posting...even if all I do is blab about my kiddos!! :-)

The radiologist comes out to me after the procedure..."well, we had a little altercation with an artery....".... NICEEEE!!! But no worries...Brendon is doing well and was thankful when the 4 hours was up and he no longer had to lie perfectly still with his leg straight. Another procedure marked off our checklist!0 -

You and Brendon are in my thoughts and prayers. I am sure all of us Moms have experienced stress just trying to raise our kids, but add to it the stress of this disease, and I can't begin to imagine how hard it must be. I know whenever I feel I can't do anything right for Rickie I remind myself that he, like so many men, likes to be in control of all situations, and suddenly he finds his whole life totally out of his control. And he has no one to take it out on, but the one closest to him. So, I give him a pass and pray for strength to help him through this. Keep positive and know that you are stronger than you think you are!

Praying for peace of mind for Brendon and for you.
I would like to share this with you.
This is out of the mouth of my 3 year old little granddaughter:
Hannah (my granddaughter) did something that got her in trouble so her daddy told her, "No tv tonight."
So when bedtime came Hannah asked to watch tv and again her daddy said, "No, remember you can't." And she said, "Yes, I can, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
To say the least her daddy was shocked that she quoted this whole entire verse and so what else could he do but allow her the tv for the night.
I thought this was so cute, but I also stopped to thank God for reminding us all of this wonderful truth, through Hannah, that we CAN do all things through Christ which strengtheneth us.
Before we take a does of medications we need to take a dose of God's words.
So to you and Brendon I say what my precious grandbaby said, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
Whatever you two may be facing in the days ahead just repeat this verse.

Well Susie, you and Brendon have been busy keeping those doctors earning money! It sounds like you are keeping the gas stations in business running back and forth to Wichita seeing the kids and taking care of Brendon. I can't even fathom dealing with your life! I pray God gives you the strength and provides loving and caring family and friends to help you both. Know you truly are on the downslope. There is lots of prayer coming your way.

I think of you and Brendon often and pray all goes well. You guys are in a similar position as me and my wife Tammy. I’m a few years older (49) but with two children in college we have way too much going on to be in this mess. But there we were last fall. Please let Brendon know that six months out from my MIE I’m back to work full time, and enjoying my life with my family and friends. This past weekend is a pretty good example of how things are now. On Saturday a friend stopped by with his canoe and we spent the day fishing. I had so much fun on Saturday that when I woke up on Sunday and went out and bought a kayak and spent the day on the lake fishing by myself. Tammy was a little surprised to see a new kayak sitting in the garage on Monday when she returned from a business trip but I think she understood. The point I’m trying to make is six months ago I couldn’t imagine things would be back to near normal. It happened for me and I know it can happen for Brendon.
