Keeping PEG tube dry

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
I just had my Peg tube "instaled" Wensday and one of the things they told me was while bathing I had to keep it dry as possible.
While the nurse was showing my wife and myself how to take care of it she said when I shower to use a piece of the press and seal wrap for keeping food fresh over the top of it in the shower.
It worked like a charm, not a drop got in.

    Keeping peg tube dry...
    REALLY?! Did they tell you that it needed to be kept dry every shower from now on or just for a bit after first installed? Wondering if anyone else was told this, as I was never told that and had it for 18 months and never covered mine in the shower and I just washed normally in the shower, letting the water right on it. I'm curious now.

    The gastroenterologist who put my tube in told me to keep it dry for the first couple of days but after that I didn't use anything to cover it.

    He told me about the cling wrap also which worked fine but my stomach broke out in bumps because of it. He said it was nothing to worry about that I was just having a reaction to the wrap. It finally cleared up after a few weeks.

    dry tube
    I was told to keep mine dry for 24 hours. After that it just hung there and got wet with everything else. No baths though for 3 months. It felt so good to finally take a nice hot bath once the tube was gone.

    I was not told anything with regards to keeping my tube dry! I showered without anything covering it & went back to bath's. I never had a problem at all! I did use antibacterial soap around it daily!

    They forgot to tell me too.
    I have only had my PEG for about 2 1/2 weeks but no one told me to keep it dry either. Surgeon said no baths for 3 days but showers were allowed. I also wash it in the shower daily with antibacterial soap and replace the drainage dressing immediately after showering. So far, no problems.

    Ok. Thanks! I was thinking, wow! If they never told me to always keep it dry, that would be a pretty key piece of info to leave out. Thanks for the info there.

    Dry for first week
    Had mine in almost a year now and was told to keep it dry the first week (ended up back in hospital the next day with pneumonia so they had to take care of it :>) ) and since then I just let it dangle and dry good after my shower.
