Had partial hysterectomy 4 years ago, NOW have a period????

Hi, I am new to the board. May 1,2007 had a partial hysterectomy for Borderline Ovarian cancer, no chemo or radiation. On May 2,2011 I started cramping and spotting. I now am having a full menses cycle. Has this happened to anyone else? I must admit I am afraid. Before surgery I had horrible cramps and bleeding. I can understand the sloughing off of the uterine lining, It just has never happened before. I have also lost some weight recently, and the doctor said there are hormones in stored fat. Just asking if there is anyone else this has happened to. Any insight and information would be helpful!

    and I would go to a gyn/onc and get a ct scan and a ca-125 blood test to rule out ca first. I am not sure what a partial hysterectomy involves but uterus is out and cervix is out and ovaries and tubes are out. Did you have one overary removed and nothing else? I am not convinced this is a menstral cycle so please follow through especially knowing you were borderline ovca....val

    Explanation of partial hysterectomy
    A partial hysterectomy is removal of the main part of the uterus without removal of the cervix. There is no uterine lining left but there could be bleeding from the cervix indicating a possible problem like cervical cancer. In this case, a Pap test would be needed...if indeed there is a cervix.

    Removal of the ovaries is called an oophorectomy & removal of fallopian tubes is a salpingectomy. Sometimes the two words are combined as in: salpingo-oophorectomy. These are big words that you usually only see on medical reports but it helps to understand your medical history.

    More of an explanation
    Sometimes doctors use the term "partial hysterectomy" when they leave the ovaries and tubes intact. No wonder women get confused!

    If you were told to continue to get Pap smears, then you probably still have a cervix and the cervix can bleed just from something called "cervical erosion."

    Let us know what the doctor says.
