Hello Everyone,
Well my mom had her biopsy today and the silly surgeon comes out and says yes it looks like recurrent cancer, he's sure. This is the same surgeon who took a biopsy March 4th that came back negative at that time showing acute and chronic inflammation with necrosis of bone. The PET scan last month lit up in that area so he did another biopsy today. biopsy results will be available next week. Obviously this ENT surgeon missed the tumor the 1st time...I don't know. Mom finished her radiation in August for paranasal cancer and is terrified at this news. He should have got it right the first time. So he schedlued my mom an appt. with another surgeon who can resect the tumor, but she will lose her left eye. What is going on...maybe we should go to Anderson. Her care has been in Charleston

You are in a difficult situation. I think a second opinion is definitely called for.

Many on here have experience at Anderson. Wait for their responses and recommendations.

    Tesa, so sorry about this
Tesa, so sorry about this news...

I am an MD Anderson patient. All there who I encountered were nothing short of amazing. My surgical onc is Dr. Amy Hessel. She is a special person. I suppose my case was a bit boring for her as I did not require a great deal of surgery etc, only biopsies, rads and chemo for SCC unknown primary. She told my wife and I that tough/challenging cases are of particular interest to her, and I gathered that she is very accomplished treating them.I would highly recommend a second opinion from MDA if you are able.

Best to you and your mom and all here,
    Chuck.

    Hi Tesa
I am sorry to hear this news, but don’t give up just yet. One of the problems with doing a biopsy on someone who was treated for cancer already is that the biopsy may look abnormal but after the pathology reads it, it can come back negative as in my case. Remember we have a lot of old scar tissue and dead tumor left over from the treatment. I hope and pray this will be what they are seeing with your Mom.
