I recommend staying away from anything petroleum based. Aquaphor is cheap and petroleum based. I did well with organic olive oil, organic coconut oil and vitamin e. I was peeling with the cheap stuff they gave me at the center but did much better after switching to the good natural stuff. If you wouldn't put it in your mouth it shouldn't go on your skin because it all ends up in the same place.

    Udder Balm
    Worked wonders for my husband.

His oncologist was extremely pleased with the results.

    Found at Wal-Mart, Wal-green, etc.

My oncologist gave me zinc oxide cream. I used it twice a day every day and only ended up with a very red neck and a few blisters along my jaw line. No breakage or peeling! I think you can only get it with a prescription though. Might be worth asking for?

    Bert's Bees
We used Bert's Bees Hand Balm (I think the ingredients are similar to bag balm or udder balm - mostly beeswax and eucalyptus). It helps to warm a small blob of it in your hands before rubbing on because it is hard at room temperature.

We also used sunburn gel (aloe gel and benzocaine) an hour or so after treatment, when he felt uncomfortable. It seemed to help.

Just a heads up in case your hubby has sensitive skin, but bag balm really hurts and burns my skin. Don't ask me why but it does. My friends told me to put it on my very dry and bleeding cracked lips, and I cried it hurt me so much. I could be a whimp. Or maybe Im allergic to something in it.

Aquaphor is water based not petroleum based. At least that is what it says and what the nurse told me. You cannot have any product on your neck when you go for rads at all. Especially no oil or petroleum based products, I was told.

I did use the aquaphor and I used Radiaplex. My skin has always been extremely dry though, so maybe it wasn't extra greasy feeling for me.

    Silvadene
I didn't like Aquaphor, too thick and greasy feeling for me....I tried Aloe plant, but didn't care much for that either.

After all said and done, I just would take warm showers and a soft hand towel, gentle washing the dead skin from the area and leaving it uncovered.

It wasn't much worse than a very bad sun burn for me as for discoloration, peeling and dryness.

If it's sever and open, they have a prescribed ointment or creme called Silvadene. It's used for burn victums, I have heard of a few that used it before with good results.

    Best,

    Aquaphor
Tried it but did not like it at all, my wife found some kind of first aid cream for burns can’t remember the name, it was a lot better on my face then anything else we found.

    Take care
