Doctors and reflux

My daughter has acid reflux often. She talked to her doctor about it and my EC. She told the dr/ she took OTC Prilosec and Zantac. The Doctor asked if it helped. My daughter said, most of the time. She said there was nothing to worry about unless her food stuck when swallowing.WHAT???????

I never experienced the acid reflux and some of the other problems some have. I could eat anything and it never bothered me and never had a problem with reflux when lying down. I did have indigestion occasionally, which my doctor was aware of.When I had a problem with my food sticking ( twice in a week) my dr. tested.I had stage 111 adio carcinoma EC T3N2M0.

We need to educate our doctors! No wonder we have so many stage Iv people. I'm going to write this doctor a letter and also include one of the ECan pamphlets.

EC Education Needed for Everyone! Dr's Included
Sandy, I agree 100%. My own story is that I went to my ENT at the beginning of the year with what I thought was sinus issues. I did have some trouble swallowing from the swelling in my throat. He did the short nose scope and said I had reflux. I had posted this on an earlier post, and I told him I had no symptoms and didn't think I had it. But he just said Yes, you do. So I ask for a referral to have a full scope done, since I know way too much about EC and the causes and symptoms, or non-symptoms to let it go. I was told he doesn't refer for scopes and to take some reflux medicine and see if it helps! I was livid!!!!!!!!!!! And that is putting it mildly. I had to call the GI doctor myself, and since it wasn't an emergency I had almost a 2 month wait for a consultation...........Just the consultation, and once that was done it took a couple more weeks to get scoped. It is crazy! An ENT that won't refer a patient for a full scope, I couldn't believe it. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and grade B esophagitis. Also had narrowing that needed stretched, but the biopies were ok. Now I know to stay on it.

I think I will follow your lead and write a letter, also, and include a pamphlet. I simply cannot believe any doctor would be so uneducated on EC. Well, now we know of at least 2!! And I'm sure there are many more.

On the good side of doctors, my husband went to our internal medicine doctor when his food was getting stuck and had a scope 2 days later! Now that's an attentive and knowledgeable doctor! Can you imagine if he had just sent him home when he was already a stage III?

Glad your daughter has you so she gets the right information! Linda
