Hello everyone,
Well my mother had stage2-3 sinus cancer. She did radiation, completing it end of august 2010. her ct in november was clean. In Feb. her ct showed abnormality near original cancer area. Her radiologist said she was sure it was a recurrence. Her sinus surgeon said he did not know. He is her ENT and trained at the Mayo Clinic, and is supposed to be good. She had biopsy in march which came back negative for cancer,it showed inflammation and necrosis of bone. Her radiologist felt the surgeon did not get enough tissue. HUH?? He got five slides. So mri a month later showed abnormal area still there, no bigger. A pet scan 2 weeks ago lit up in that same spot. So.... now she has to undergo ANOTHER biopsy next week. Surgeon will have another surgeon to make sure he's in the right area. He felt he was in the right area the first time he did the biopsy. Can someone please tell me if you've had similar experiences. I'm sooooo scared for my mom. She's 83 and feels great. please pray for us

But that being said, I can't say this sounds like residual, but also, I'm not a MD. You are doing the right thing by having second opinions...unfortunately none seem to concur with each other.

My first thought is do you have an ENT and what has his/her participation been on this process.... In my case my ENT heads everything up.

If you don't have one,get one involved, hopefully within the same facility so they can all communicate and share information and collaborate with eachother.

    Thoughts and Prayers,

    Hi teas
Sometimes there is what’s called left over scar tissue and dead tumor in the sinus. I am NPC and was treated for NPC twice and still to this day my PET scans come back with an area lit up where the cancer was. I went to the Mayo Clinic last year and did a biopsy of the area just to get a second opinion and the biopsy came back clean. Just remember biopsies tell the facts and even then they must be read by someone knowing that residue cancer is part of sinus treatment.

Hoping and praying for both you and your Mon

Thank you so much. It is a never ending battle I tell you. I thought the biopsy in March would have been it, it seems odd to have to go back in and remove more tissue to be sure. Oh well...it is what it is

    Never Ending

You are so right with the never ending battle. For me its been 9 ½ years and I still have to go to see my Oncl man every 6 months to do a PET or a scope. But it is OK I am still alive and I enjoy everyday I can be with my grandchildren and watch them grow up and laugh at the silly little things they do. And don’t forget laughter is one of the best healing things we can do for our bodies and don’t cost anything but a smile.

    Take care and keep posting
