I did appeal with insurance but also took chance and called the only other Cancer group in town AGAIN and connected with the office manager, explained my bind AGAIN, and asked for their help AGAIN. This time I did not get a brush-off. The office manager consulted with one of the docs who agreed to see me and oversee the port flush and future chemo if needed. I will keep my gyn-onc from the other practice. This new doc and the office manager are true gems in my book. I have appointment on the 27th for consult with new doc and port flush!!!

Moral of this story I think is - If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!!!

I will have to try that, Mary Ann. I have my checkup on June 6 with my gyn/onc. There might be a way, too, wherein my local PCP can sign off on it, but originally it would have to have been in a hospital wherein she was associated with and the one she is with is really not the kind that deals with cancers like others in the area.

I will let you know!

It was my understanding that only personnel that was trained on port flushing was allowed to do that. That is what they told me at the infusion center. My PCP was even going to give me a scrip but they wouldn't take that either since she wasn't associated with that hospital, even though most of the hospitals in the area are "owned" by one company.

My only other alternative is to have it taken out. I needed a clean scan (which I actually had two since my surgery in February of 2010). (Also, I have had a clean scan since October of 2005) Now I just need to find someone to take it out. The doctor has to be a vascular doctor. I could get one where I live. I just don't know how to go about it.

It is kinda hard when you have to travel 3 hours for appointments, treatments, etc. Not that I am complaining, but it is the little stuff that can be bothersome.

Anyway, I have my check-up on June 6th. I will find out then. I had been trying to get a PET Scan, but the Physician's Assistant seems I don't need one even though the Dr said at my last appointment to get one in 6 months. I wanted to schedule it the same day as my appointment so I didn't have to make two trips, but.....

Why sweat the small stuff? My son is going to the prom and then graduating from high school. That's enough to keep me busy right now, plus painting our new home!
