A beverage that might be worth a try when everything is burning....
I also have a new one. I went to a friend's house last week, and she gave me a glass of Sassafrass Tea. Made from Pappy's Sassafrass Tea Concentrate. It tastes like root beer, and to me, it feels better and tastes better than plain water.
I also like it right now because it does not have any sugar, but tastes 'sweet' and pleasant to me. Also has no caffiene. I am drinking more water this way, which is good as well. I'm not a water drinker. Hate water.
A 12oz bottle was $2.99 and you use about 1oz of concentrate to 8oz water. You can make it hot or iced, I've just been drinking it room temp.

Sassafrass Tea
Wow, what memories that stirred up. As a teenager in Boy Scouts while camping in Michigan I discovered the Ssssafrass plant. What wonderful stuff. Grab hold of the leaves and stems and just yank on one and out come all the root stems that are plum filled with this root beer tasting herb. Just crack one off and chew. Also just pour hot water on it and instant rootbeer tea. Smells like pure rootbeer and it must be how they make the stuff?0 -

Yep. It's used to make rootbeer.
One time I was on my lunch hour and was down in kitchen eating and drinking a Sioux City Saspirilla. (tastes like Sassafras to me) The bank's VP came down stairs and started going off on me that I had 'some nerve' and saying all kinds of weird stuff and I couldn't figure out what he was flipping out about at first. I looked down at the brown bottle in my hand and realized he thought I was drinking a beer at work! He was going to fire me. Lol I don't even like beer and I never drank it.0 -
SASSAFRAS ROOT
Dawn, it grows wild up in your area....bet your dad knows what it looks like.
When I was a kid in Ohio, we would look for it, dry out a big piece of the root. Then take shavings and boil and strain it to make a tea, or beverage...tastes just like or similar to Old Fashioned Root Beer as you mentioned - Sasparilla.
In reading the second link below, it looks like that root beer was a cobination of both ingredients.
The TEA is very good though....

Actually, now that I see the leaves, I definitely think I have seen them. That three leaf pattern is very distinct. I am going to tear a leaf off and see if it smells anything like filé powder.
Also, the Pappy's Sassafras Tea concintrate is safrole free. That was the controversial item that got banned. It's not in the Pappy's Sassafras, so you don't need to worry about that if you want to try it.0 -

Sweet,
I just bought a bottle last night, but have not tried it. I love to smell the leaves. Where I grew up they were every where. I will let you know what I think. I love root beer.

Hope you like it. To me it tastes like a light root beer. Not cloyingly sweet like root beer can be, but a light naturally sweet tea.0 -

IBC makes a pretty good Root Beer (Cream Soda also), not sure if they have it up there....
But when I was a kid, nobody made a Root Beer as good as an Ice Cold Creamy A&W in the frosted mug....MMMM0 -

Yep. IBC. Can't drink that or the A&W now. Only the MUG works. Everything burns.0 -

Have you let the A&W set and flatten out...I guess that would be more carbonation though instead of the bite or the spices....0 -
Yes, I tried it flat.Skiffin16 said:Flat
