Cisplatin and 5 fu for concurrent chemo/rad for BOT?

My mom has decided to stay local for her treatment since my dad is sick too....The oncologist here said she would have 7 wks rads with cisplatin and 5 fu on wks 1 4 and 7....Did anyone else have fu 5 as part of their chemo/rad treatment?

    Sounds like induction chemo
    Brigboo, Connie had Cisplatin, Doxetaxol, Cetuximab and then carried the infusion pump for 4 days with 5FU. Tell your Mom we wish her well and will be praying for her. Sincerely, Homer & Connie

    Several Have Had 5FU
    I had three rounds of Cisplatin, Taxotere and 5FU for induction chemo, (one round every three weeks), then switched to carboplatin weekly during radiation. I had the 5FU infused over a five day period each round - I wore a fanny pack with a chemo pump in it - it was hooked up to my PICC line, and the drug was pumped into me throughout the day for the five days. I have heard that, like Cisplatin, 5FU can be hard on the kidneys - hydration is very important. I never developed kidney issues, and they're still fine a year later.

    Same exact as PamM....

    Nine weeks (three week cycles) of Cisplatin, Taxotere and 5FU (pumped through the port and a fanny pack). Then seven weeks of concurrent chemo/rads with weekly Carboplatin and daily radiation.

    That was between January 2009 - June 2009...all clear since...

    STG III SCC Tonsils HPV+ and a lymphnode on the same side.

    Sounds like a plan, your Mom will need a lot of help and support and it looks like she got just that. All the best to all of you as she begins to start her treatment

    Seems to have become a standard
    and from I've read the results are marginally better than the straight cocktail. In this business even 1 percent helps, go for it.

    I had cisplatin and 5FU for 6 weeks while having radiation treatments at the same time.
    Mondays were Chemo days and I had the cisplatin and carried a 24 hour pump for the 5FU.
    Extreme nausea after treatment 6 and I never got the last dose of chemo. Stage 4 tonsil cancer with mets to lymph nodes. HPV+. 13 months since my last rad and I am doing GREAT!

    I had the same, Cisplatin, 5FU and Radiation the same as you described. Mine was many years ago and the Chemo's were given on a drip that was 24 hours a day for 5-6 days in row. They were given during weeks 1,4 and 7. I am certain they have changed the length of duration.

    If I can do it your mother and many others doing the same can do it and whip cancer's butt.

    No Drip - Infusion Pump
    I believe the most common method now is the use of the power port implanted into your chest. The infusion pump, which still has the drip bags attached, but are fed directly into your blood stream at a much faster rate. The rate is adjusted and usually determined (trial and error) your first session.

    My first session of Cisplatin and Taxotere (along with the 5 - 6 bags of various fluids, Lasix, anti-allergy and nausea drugs and the initial CBC tests) took from around Monday 9AM until 6PM. Ending with the 5FU hooked up to a pump in a fanny pack and sent me home until Friday Morning for fluids and pump removal.

    The next session I was probably out of there on Monday by 3, even less the third session.

    They'll bump the feed rate if you can tolerate it without any reactions....other than a lot of urinating, LOL... I was labeled the P King. So sit near the restrooms.
