She has been having allergic reactions to her chemo so they were unable to give her the maximum dose like they wanted to... i just feel like she has constantly been let down and i feel bad telling her to stay positive when she keeps getting let down...

raeofsunshine~I feel your pain my Mom has stage 4 lung ca as well...
I think there is pre-med they could give her before tx, have they tried that? A friend of mine's Mom gets IV Benadryl befor tx my Mom gets IV I think 10mg of Decadron before tx.
They never told us and we never asked the Oncs how long, but the Onc said were in for the long hall...she is in her 4th tx of carbplatin/alimta and every cpl of wks she gets zameta and b12 inject. and doing well so far. Will have scans on the 26th.
Go for a 2nd opinion we did at sloan kettering its peace of mind and if your Onc is a good one they will not be upset that your getting a 2nd opinion.
I dont know if its good or bad, but I did my research online found some real crummy stuff on site but also found some real informative stuff as well. The people here are amazing and it has sometimes became my therapy...as well as my education...
Stay positive around Mom she needs it and just be there for her and go to her appt's with her and do everything you can. Mom calls me her "PR" LOL she thanks me all the time for being there and doing everything I can. So coming from one daughter to another I feel what your going throu...
My thoughts are with you...sleepless in jersey0 -
hey now
You and your mom are in a fight as are me and mine. Listen, this is a battle... probably incurable, but be brave! It has helped me to ask questions about this fight and what you're in for. What chemo did she react to? They should be giving benedryl and steroids. My mom has started her second round after being nearly a comatosed person in the hospital. Docs are aggressive at this point. Where are you from? My mom is doing well and we're waiting for the chemo onset. She takes it well but seems to shut down at a certain point. Not this time... we know the signs and have meds to offset side effects.
You stay strong and know you aren't alone. This isn't a lonely road! Be strong and keep your mom enthuastic! I am praying for many of us kids who battle along side with our parents. People ask you if you need anything probably. Just tell them to pray and send your family gas cards. lol Mine have a long trip and we get Boosts at Wal-Mart. Protien and calories! Be strong and be positive. We go through so much but we're not alone. You take care friend. We fight together! Much love and prayers!!0 -

Hello iujenny~ Sorry it's been awhile since I have been on...
Yes we are in for the long hall!
She was on carbo/alimta for 4TX and received decadron IV before TX and large dose pill form the day before and the day after and still takes a pill everyday since DX in January just down to 1mg now but she is very swollen in the face.
She was on carbo/alimta now that we just got our scan results on fri.we will be changing the plan. Neuro said head clear GREAT and Onc said some tumors in lungs have shrunk and some grew So starting wed. we will be doing taxatere every wk for 12 wks at 2hrs a clipping. We need to do our research before we go to the Doc's on wed. Its all to much to take in right now.
She states she has not lost weight I think she looks it, however im sure if she got off the decadron it will show. Food totally discuss her and the same with water.
She's worried she's going to end up with a port now doing chemo every wk and they have been having a tough time with getting her veins as it is every 3 wks.
I will stay strong for her and by her, but when im not with her I am falling apart!
I live in northern NJ...sleepless0
