Colostomy blood

in Colorectal Cancer #1
Hubby had a colostomy in January. Last 3 weeks he is seeing blood in the pouch.
Anyone have experience with this. They are doing a colonoscopy through the stoma
next Monday. We know he has a tumor near the rectum, but they bypassed this when
they did the colostomy. He also has liver tumors but do they bleed? I know this
is a stupid question, but Cancer rewrites the book everyday!!! His last regular
chemo was last week, now he has erbitux every 3 weeks. Can't take the regular
chemo anymore. They did a scan 3 weeks ago, the liver sites had reduced but are
still there. Thanks for any input. Brenda

    I have a permanant colostomy since 7/08,and I get blood all the time.I asked the doctor about it,and he said it was not uncommon because the tissue around the stoma is sensetive,and I do get blood when I clean the stoma,and put to much pressure on it.I hope this helps.

    Stoma Bleeding
    Blood from around the stoma is normal. I have had my Ileostomy since 12/06, and it constantly has a little blood coming from around it. But, if the blood is coming through the hole of the stoma that probably needs to be checked out. Just remember this though that some foods, or drinks, will make it change colors. There are somethings that I eat and drink that make it red like blood.

    As the others said, a stoma
    As the others said, a stoma is sensitive and will bleed easily. But if there is a measurable amount of blood that is coming out of the stoma, that is a different thing. It's good that you are having a scope next Monday, but you might want to go ahead and ask the doctor about this now - just to make sure. I've never heard of liver tumors bleeding, but it's not a stupid question.
    Glad to hear the liver mets are smaller. That's good.

    Can't help you about bleeding despite I wish Brenda!
    But liver mets shrinking are excellent news!.How many chemo rounds he already had?.

    No, he is getting blood through the stoma. I agree that
    the area around has bled a good bit as well. It is amazing that you have had one
    since 08 and it still is sensitive around the area. I had hoped it would get

    Yes, it is though the stoma. I guess we will see what is happening
    next week with the tests. The surgeon is the one requesting the scope,
    he says he might have missed something when they did the colostomy.

    Hi Pepe, he has had two rounds of chemo, 6 months each. Will be
    doing erbitux every 3 weeks now, for maintenance? Still has the mets,
    so erbitux keeps growth down? I wondered if Erbitux could cause bleeding,
    but I thought it was given to keep blood "from" the sites.
    There is SO much that I don't know about this stuff!!!
