Stopping clinical trial :(
She started on Doxil immediately. Her spirits are so low, this is now the third chemo regimen she is on. She became resistant to carbo after 7 treatments and now the trial drug is now longer working.
I really hope she keeps her hair this time.

Doxil
Sorry your is having such a tough time. I can tell you some things about Doxil... it does not cause hair loss, but it can cause other side effects. Usually, they will use ice packs on your feet and hands while you are being infused to restrict blood flow to those areas. It's best to ice at home in five minute intervals for about five days afterward in five minute intervals several times a day. (the doxil website will probably give you some good tips) My ONC told me not to drink citrus and to avoid hot water... cool baths or showers. What your Mom may experience are more skin related issues. Let's hope it kicks butt!

Sorry to hear your mom has not made progress as hoped for. Will the oncologist allow her to take a few weeks off before going on Doxil? It sounds like she needs a break.
I have not used Doxil but I do want to say something about skin creams. There are hidden hormones like progesterone and estrogen (from plant sources) in skin care products in the US--and the ingredients are NOT listed on the label as phytohormones. Please be careful what your mom uses for skin care as I think the problem is worldwide. Be especially careful of any "anti-aging" products as the hormones do make skin look younger.
When I was working, I ran a hormone profile for a man who was depressed and the results showed that he was sky high in progesterone--the lab asked for a sample of the sun screen product that he was using and found it to have hidden progesterone!
Maybe someone can direct you to a place where you can get good products. I get mine from a compounding pharmacy so I know they are pure.0 -
Dear Kelly
Hi Kelly,
So been there.....still am there I guess....it is very discouraging to watch Moms do absolutely everything they are asked and then....boom....the news day.....frankly, I hate news day, and would never go again if Mom didn't insist.....Your mom should keep her hair with the doxil...and make sure you get a prescription for "magic Mouthwash"......Take care of yourself in all of this.......Your Mom sounds like she's quite resilient..and she'll adjust in her own way....Take care.....Sincerely, Fang Fish0 -

Finally a picture of my Mom.
I find it interesting that everyone I have encountered on this path is beautiful on the outside and usually on the the inside too.
