First chemo session
I had my first session today. My Doc was in the infusion room and knowing how apprehensive I've been he said "You're going to be surprised at how well this is going to go." He was right, It did go well. The nurses were absolutely great. The only glitch was that by the time we got home, even with taking the decadron IV my face and neck were very red and raised. It thank goodness did not itch like hives, but thats what it is. I left a message for the on call resident but did not get a call back. I ended up putting cold compresses on my face and smearing benadryl on it. I'll call the office tomorrow.
I hope this doesn't mean I can't take the carboplatin anymore.
Wishing all a happy holiday season.
Debbie

Hi Deb:
Congrats on your first session. Sorry about the small side effect. Hopefully the benadryl did the trick. How many sessions do you have left?
Enjoy your holiday.
Kathy
Did you try taking oral benadryl? They may have to give you more steroids. Keep waiting for that call. You're doing well.

Hi Kathy, yes, the benadryl did the trick. I have a total of 6 rounds, given on a weekly basis instead of every three weeks. I get a week off after 3 sessions, then we start on round 2. It wasn't nearly as badas I thought it would be, just starting to feel a little tired.
When the Docs office called back, they told me the red face was a side effect of the taxol.
Enjoy the holiday season!

Hi Diane,
All is ok here, evidently just a side effect of the taxol. I didn't take oral banadry because I already take allegra for allergies. The redness was gone by the next morning.
Wishing good things for you and all our sisters in this fight!
Blessed Holiday Season to all!

Debbie,
I had same drugs you did and by the time I was home for 1-2 hrs after infusion, my face got real red. I have NO allergies, but they did give me Benadryl as infusion as well. So...either way people like myself with the drug to help reactions still get red.
Just part of the game. You did great and know you'll be more at ease with each treatment. Does get better.....
Best to you always,
Jan0
