ACUPUNCTURE AND OR AURICULAR THERAPY FOR DRY MOUTH

Has anyone had any success with Acupuncture and or Auricular Therapy for dry mouth??

    I wish I could help but I have been to afraid to try it for fears it will make something worse happen to me, you know how my lucks been.

    Evoxac
    I'm almost one year post-treatment, rads "all the way around" and chemo once a week for seven weeks.

    I have been using a prescription drug called Evoxac. I originally asked my doctor about Salagen and she recommended Evoxac over that.

    I tried it for six weeks (three times a day) and then took a month off to see if I would notice a difference. I did. I'm back taking it...twice a day. I have had no side effects, which mainly are excessive sweating.

    My husband had a neck dissection and was in a lot of pain for months. I read an article on acupuncture for neck dissection pain and dry mouth. We decided to try it, he had nothing to lose. He has been going once a week for about 2 months and we are seeing improvement.
    His surgeon told him they do it where he was treated at MD Anderson and if people have been doing it for 2,000 years there must be something to it........Hope this helps.

    Mike,

    I have been getting accupuncture since diagnosis. I find it relieves many side effects of rads and chemo including dry mouth. It does offer instant relief for some things but is mainly a cumulative treatment and works best when done regularly. Find a "community accupuncture" in your area for the best rates; approximately $15-20 per session.

    My RADONC gave me Evovac and said if you do not notice any change in 3-4 days to stop taking it. it did not do anything for me. maybe I should actually try it for a month and then see.

    I have a lady
    Hi Mike,

    I have a lady through a support group that is a caregiver like me and her husband had the same cancer and treatments as Ron. He is 10 years post treatment and just recently tried accupuncture and has had great results specifically for salivary gland function. She said the person treating her husband is actually a retired physician. I am definitely going to look into it for Ron. I figure anything is worth looking into and I have heard like I think Bob mentioned it is only about $20 a session.

    Mike,

    I did it for a year or so and still get a treatment when I can. Hard to say if that helped me regaing the 10-15% I have now but I recall one treatment where I actually felt something happening. There are other good benefits wih acupunture so think it's a good move.

    Nights are still tough for me. Days are fine.
