CT results

My CT scan today showed the implants and lymph nodes are decreased BUT I do have an increase in ascities. My onc in NYC is unsure if it is due to the cancer or due to portal hypertension from my liver issues. If it is due to the cancer I will have to change treatments. A team of radiologist are going to review the scan and let me know what their impression is.

I have been suffering with severe, intermittent abdominal cramps usually associated with diarrhea or gas. The pain is bad enough to bring me to tears. I've been taking gas-x which seems to help. Also still dealing with fatigue. I did feel like my abdomen felt and looked bigger. I guess the scan proves that. Lots of belching still. Doc said the abdominal pain could be realted to the ascities.

    Nancy,
Thanks for the update. Very good news on the lymph nodes. The taxol must have been working on those. I hope the radiologists get to the bottom of that ascities soon! (Very curious how they actually determine the source of the ascities from a CT scan.) Did you have ascities with your origianl dx, or is this something new for you?

I'm so sorry you are in so much pain, my heart is breaking for you, and I pray you get a breakthrough soon.
    love you,
    kathleen

PS I get my CT results today, so will post later.

    Dear Nancy
Well that's good news about the spots being smaller..YEAH!!, but I sure wish they could figure out your source of pain and discomfort...hows your CA-125? what regime are you on now? When will they decide? I hate to read about you being in pain...Have they given you anything for the pain? Hang in there....it sounds like the taxol has been doing the trick and thats a GREAT thing!! I am deeply saddened that
I am deeply saddened that you are suffering. Also it must be frustrating to have scans reviewed by other meds before you can get some definitive answers. Very tough stuff.

    intestinal troubles
    Nancy

Good news about making progress! I wish you felt more like celebrating the good news.

Your symptoms could be from an intestinal infection. You might ask your physician to run some stool cultures (usually three are necessary). Diarrhea and intestinal pain could signal C. diff. unless you are so constipated that you are having loose stool "overflow."

The pain I had from a C. diff. infection was severe and colicky. All I could do was lay on the sofa with a heating pad on my belly for months until the infection was discovered.

If you had an intestinal infection, it could cause poor digestion of protein--even if you were eating enough protein. Protein deficiency makes ascites worse.

So sorry that you are in such pain. Don't you wish your doctor could live in your body for a week? I don't say that to be mean--just that I don't think doctors realize what we go through.

Sorry to read of your pain.
    Dear Nancy,

I am sorry to hear of the severe discomfort your are experiencing. I will pray for you and hope that your health will soon improve. I have also been experiencing some nausea and discomfort recently. I called my GYN/ONC office today to tell the nurses of my symptoms and they asked me to come in for a CA-125 and a follow up appt. on Tuesday, 4/26/2011. I was scheduled to go in May but now I go this week and next. I am scared about a possible recurrence.

When were you first diagnosed and when was your surgery and at what stage were you?

I used to feel at peace, but now I am very concerned. It sounds like our cases may be similar.

Again I will pray for you to be healed and if you believe in the power of prayer, may I ask you to pray for me? I have already cried several times today simply because of fear.

    May God be with you.

    Love,
    Betty

    Hang in there !
I am so sorry you are in pain and I hope they find it is from your liver issues rather than the cancer. Are you taking something for the pain? You are going thru enough, pain should not be there too. People think they should not deal with the pain but it is not good it causes you to be tired, depressed and lowers your immune system so it is harder to deal the real issue. I hope you feel better soon !

Dear Nancy, I am so happy to
Dear Nancy, I am so happy to hear that the CT results are good, but very sorry you are suffering such miserable pain. I have always found abdominal pain the hardest to bear. I have no clue if this will help, but you could try probiotics. After my surgery, I was so bloated with gas that my skin stretched and that was painful too. My husband went to the health food store and got a probiotic called "Critical Care," and I felt better only 2 hours after the first. They can be expensive, but it's worth a try, if you haven't already done that. You get a much higher concentration of helpful bacteria with probiotics than with yogurt.

    If the shoe fits...
Regarding my "name": It really ought to be "Her Royal Highness of Stain Removal" but that was too long to type in...hahahahaha!

    Be well.

    Nancy I read your post
Nancy I read your post yesterday and I felt so bad for you that you are in pain. I just had to sit and cry for awhile. I am glad that the implants and lymph nodes have decreased. That is good news.

I said extra prayers for you that the ascities and your pain will stop.

(((Nancy))): Hate the pain; but love the scan results!!
I hate to think of you in pain, but you have to be happy about your scan results. At least you know that chemo still works for you; that is a very important advantage. I just got my scan results, too, and have significant disease progression with my liver mets, and even my onoclogist seems to feel that I am completely chemo-resistant now. I am so glad you aren't in that same position!! Hang in there; they will get to the bottom of this pain! I'm so sorry that you are suffering.

We are looking at radioembolism for me as a possible next treatment. I have to be tested to see if I am a candidate for it. Here's the link, if anyone with liver mets is interested in this:

    Bowel pains & diarrhea
    Dear Nancy

Are you are on pain pills and still having diarrhea and pain? Something is wrong...I vote for stool culture.

I like the idea of the probiotics--go slow with that as some people get more gas pains after introducing "friendly bacteria."

    scan
I am NOT celebrating this scan as good news until I find out what is causing the ascities. If it is from the liver then I will be pleased. Of course if it is from the cancer...well...that means the chemo didn't work. Hopefully I'll find out today.

Just wanted to say thinking of your today and wishing you and all the ladies on here a wonderful, Easter weekend. It sounds like portal Hypertension would be the lesser of two evils and I can just imagine how stressful it is, not knowing the cause and not knowing what your next step may or may not be..
    Hugs,
