Small portions
After my surgery, I had a real hard time getting interested in eating. I blamed it on the anesthesia and the meds...everything had a strange smell.
My dear mother was here to help me and she made all of my favorites and gave me tiny to small portions of things as often as I would agree to try. That seemed to help and as time went on she made the portions a little bigger.
Hope that our dad can be enticed to eat more. Now that better weather is here, perhaps some fresh fruits and veggies will sound good to him.

Lots of calories, protien and vitamins in a small drink.
I have heard of hospital pharmacies selling it at low cost to cancer patients, if not, CVS has had the best deals in my market.
It made all the difference for me when recovering from surgery.0 -

although my situation is a little different, I haven't been able to eat since losing my husband and truthfully the best thing I have found to work is good old Mary Jane0 -

will slow down long enough....Only my opinion but I think a Dr would need to prescribe it to whomever they decide needs it....it did work very well for a friend of mine.........buzz0 -
the comment you made that he
the comment you made that he said everything tastes like poop. Did I also read he had thrush issues at one point too?
I had mouth sores and thrush so bad my mouth was darn near swollen closed. Even after the swelling went down, the taste was a HUGE issue, literally everything tasted like sh*t. In addition everything I ate, like an egg or bit of chicken, would stick to the inside of my mouth, I would have to scrape it off. It was nasty. They had me on oral morphine and magic mouth wash, after using that I would have a 10 min or so window where I could eat. It wasn't perfect, but got some calories in me. BTW, in my case, it was nothing about appetite- I was famished, I wanted to eat, but nothing would go in. Pot or appetite increasing pills did NOTHING for me.
Boost drinks helped. I actually would put one in a coffee mug, sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on it and mic it for about a minute. And then sip on it for hours. Hot broth helped. Nothing spicy- it would hurt the inside of my mouth. to this day I have to be careful, over 2 years from chemo, and I can not tolerate spicy or physcially hot things, and any carbonated drinks HURT the inside of my checks and tongue.
If thrush is an issue or has been? I would talk to the oncologist about doing something like oral morphine or magic mouthwash. The other suggestion I have would be to ask about working with a dietician who specializes in chemo issues. They have all kinds of tricks and really do understand the taste issue.0 -
