in Head and Neck Cancer #1
Well the swelling in my neck has went down a little since my neck dicestion, I have a growth on my left ear tragus that is very painful. Last week I went to Reno to see a ENT and this guy really bumbed me out, I started to talk to him about my neck and how I am developing lympedema and would like some therapy for it and that my pain scale was off the chart and also about my ear. When my wife told him that it seemed that I was getting worse instead of better he just shrugged his sholders and said yea ok, and that was it. Then he proceded to tell me that there was nothing they could do about my neck. I have been told by the ENT doctors in San Francisco that there is a clinic that could help. Although the thing on my ear that other doctors thought was a skin infection he insisted was a skin cancer, all I know is that it is big and when it appeared my pain scale rocketed up. It ha been over a week and I still have not received a phone call about the biopsy they took from my ear, I told my oncologiest that I didn't feel I was asking for a miracle but just a little help. My jaw does not open that far and the left side of my tongue swells up and makes it dang near impossible to eat, I would love to chew on some food but it is so hard. I have a dentist appointment in two weeks and my jaw only opens about 1/2 to 3/4 inch in front. Maybe the dentist will send me in for some therapy. Anyway just needed to vent, thanks.

    Sounds like you need to find a doctor with some empathy and an understanding of what cancer does to ones mental state as much as physical.

    Glad to read the swelling has went down a bit. Sorry to read about the pain from the ear thing. I'm praying for you buddy. Let us know when the biopsy report comes back.

    Don't blame you for venting, it certainly sounds like you have had a horrible week!!

    I would be looking for a new ENT if mine ever treated me the way yours did...just my opinion. I would also be on the phone with him to find out the biopsy results. Sorry but he sounds like a real jerk, an insensitive one at that.

    Will be praying that everything gets better and your biopsy results are good.

    I have to say 'ditto' to what Glenna had to say. Brad I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. I wish there were more I can offer you other than just my prayers.

    you have every right to VENT and I say Ditto to what Glenna and Sweet said....hope things get better for you soon...hang in there easy for me to say, but you are also in my prayers and they do help...alot...some Dr's just have no bedside manners and it should NOT be that way...they should all be compasionate!

    Finally got the biopsy results
    So the masive thing on my ear is SCC and now i just want it cut off, I have never in all my life experiance pain like this. This thing is as big around as a nickle and about 1/4 inch thick. I finally got some phone calls back today, but not from the ENT doctor. My oncologist wants me to have a PET/CT done to make sure it is a seperate tumor and not spread from the base of my tongue. I just said fine but I want it cut off first, he doubled my dose of fentenal and more morphine when the pain spikes. I really hope it is a seperate tumor and no spreading has occured. I just finished my second trip through chemo/radiation and was really hopping for a pleasent summer.

    Hoping that it isn't something that spread either. I want nothing more than a pleasant summer for you as well. You've been thru enough.

    I'm with you - I hope they cut that thing out ASAP. Really hoping it is its own thing, and not spread from the base of tongue. Irked that you STILL haven't heard back from ENT. Don't fret about venting - you most certainly have a right to vent. Do well.

    I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with more of this crap! It makes me angry to read how insensitive some Dr's are. You are in my thought's & prayer's. I wish you a peacfull summer also Brad!
