Vacation
I vacilate between feeling super excited and then a little guilty. I've had a blast getting some new clothes and things for the trip. But last night as I was figuring out what to pack, I wished that Mike was here so I could do the fashion show thing..."What do you think of this dress? These shoes or those shoes?" My two most supportive girlfriends are going with me. We got an insanely good price. They'll be about 200 other people in recovery going as well, meetings in the morning and the evening, and on the last day of the cruise I'll celebrate having 9 years clean and sober. I know I'll have a good time, and I know Mike would want me to enjoy myself. I just wish he could be here to enjoy it with me.
I HATE that cancer has changed my life like this!

Trips
I understand where you are coming from. I have been on several trips since I lost Doug, mostly with family. I don't think the feeling is so much guilt as it was feeling that something was missing. I still enjoyed the trips. I just found myself thinking how much he would have enjoyed them as well. Like I've said before, it is the sharing that I miss the most. Have a good cruise. Fay0 -

I will be leaving for London this week for 10 days with a very dear friend. Terry and I planned on traveling to Europe once we finished paying for kids' college ed...last tuition payment made Jan. 2009, GBM diagnosed March 2009. Needless to say our plans did not pan out. I am excited, sad, nervous, excited. Wish I was going with him, but glad to be going. Enjoy your cruise, relax and have fun.0 -

Have a good trip, Becky. I went to Europe with my older son and family over Christmas. Doug was not fond of flying, so we spent most of our vacations in US and Canada. It was snowing in London while we were there. It was cold but interesting. Fay0 -

Trip
Penny I hope you enjoy your trip I too am on my first trip since my wife died in February, most of the time it is ok but little thi9ng swill remind you of the other person. I find little things she would always do or remember such as checking to make sure the key has not been left in the room, making sure we didnt forget anything, etc, etc..... At least a cruise with other people is a good way to start as they tell to get on with our lives but is not always that easy. Good luck I hope you enjoyed your trip. John0 -

Vacations are so needed, they refresh your soul. Hope everyone has a wonderful time, even though your loved one is not with you in person, they are with you in spirit. I too, am taking a vacation. Leaving Wed. for 2 weeks, to Louisiana for a music festival and visit with friends. It will be the much needed "Spring Fling", after a long and dark winter. Can't believe Dale will be gone almost 8 months and still trying to move forward step by step. I feel he is giving me signs as to what direction to take. Everyone enjoy and take care.

Loved vacations
Penny,
I'm sure by now you're back from your cruise. How was it??? I miss our vacations to the Carribbean in spring so much, but don't know if I could ever go again. Also in summer we used to go up to a cottage every July and loved that too. But I think my heart would break if I had to sit up there and listen to the loons that we loved by myself.
Let us know how your cruise was, okay? Carole0 -

I am leaving tomorrow for 2 weeks at our beach house in Florida, I too had a great time shopping for new summer clothes (I have dropped a significant amount of weigh sinve losing my beloveed) I've mad plans to have some renovations done in the house while I am gone. Today I ran around doing last minute errands included mani/pedi and my hair? No I am sitting here alone (as always) and have become overwhelmed with guilt. He loved that house and it is never going to be the same without him.
don't know how this is going to go, but I am going to try it
