Mother

Can someone help me please. Mother is 62 and had colostomy in July of last year. Was doing well, though refused chemotherapy and radiation, after surgery. About a month ago she slid acrossed seat in truck and has been in pain sence. No insurance so can't go to doctor. Please tell me what I can do. Can't get Medicaid because she does not have the right kind of cancer. Frustrated and desperate.

    more info?
    Hi,

I'm sorry to hear your mother has been having such troubles. I don't understand why your mother can't get Medicaid because she doesn't have "the right kind of cancer". Does she have colon cancer? That's a pretty major cancer- I can't believe it wouldn't be the "right" kind, or that any kind of cancer would be discriminated against for qualifying for benefits. Usually, the qualifications would be based on income level for Medicaid (although I don't have experience with Medicaid).
You've got to get some help with getting your mother to the doctor.
Call the American Cancer Society and tell them the situation- they should be able to give you a bit of direction & perhaps lead you to organizations that can help with medical bills, or maybe even give you info on the Medicaid issue. I don't know- but I think I'd start there. Google them online- their phone numbers should be able to be found on their website. What stage is your mom's cancer?
    It does make a difference.

Best wishes for you and your mom-
    Lisa

    Hospital ER
If you have a 'not for profit' hospital in your area, take her to their ER. They will see her even without insurance. They will also have some finanace folks there who will be able to help regarding getting assistance for paying for the services.
