PS I just want to mention that when all of my scanning and biopsying for endo cancer was going on, I asked my gynecologist if she would consider a hysterectomy for prophylactic reasons. This was my third time for having biopsies because of thickening and bleeding after menopause. I also had a number of other risk factors (postmenopausal, overweight, hypertension, late menopause, and age). I didn't want this to continue (hate, hate, hate those stupid biopsies) and then get a dx of endometrial cancer when I was older and in poorer general health and I didn't want to have to worry about it anymore. She agreed that I was a good candidate for a hysterectomy and we were going to schedule one in a few months. Then the biopsy came back that I had endometrial cancer and the whole conversation was moot.
A hysterectomy is major surgery for sure and certainly nothing to take lightly, even if it's performed robotically like mine was. It's still major surgery through small incisions. I bring this up only because for me, and by my gynecologist, these bleeding events coupled with my risk factors were enough to weigh in favor of the risks for surgery being less than the risks for developing endometrial cancer. I have absolutely no idea whether she would have agreed to do this had I been, young, thin, and my only risk factor was taking Tamoxifen.0 -
Yay for benign
One of the best words you can hear.
