I am doing it at the surgery center using a local. I am a little nervous that local meds burns like crazy. Did anyone have to have two cuts? I was told it depends on how mush scar tissue is in the neck. I feel like I am losing my security. But I know it is a good thing. Think of me at 10:30 tomorrow I will keep you all posted. Thank for the other post on this matter it is always helpful. How much do you have after? Thank for listing Cindy

    Being de-ported
I had my port removed about 3-4 months after my last chemo infusion. It was done with local anesthesia right in the surgeon's office. Yes, the initial injection stung a bit but I have been through worse. After that it did not hurt at all. I just felt some tugging. I drove myself home from the appt without any problem. I have a 2nd small scar on my upper left chest right above the scar from where the port was first put in. Not sure why he could not just reopen the 1st scar. The port removal did not involve any incisions on my neck. No pain meds were required after the removal. Good luck. The anticipation is always worse than the actual procedure. IRENE

I had my port out as an outpatient in the hospital. I was given the option if I wanted to be completely awake or doped up. I stayed awake. My skin was numbed and all went well. The dr used the same incision from when the port was placed. Good luck tomorrow.

    Port is gone
It was easy I used me numbing cream (Emela) as instructed. It helped with the sting from the numbing medication. It only took maybe 15 Minutes. It is still numb. Thank you for you comments. Anticipation was the worst part so far. This is such a wonderful place to come, Love to all of us on this rocky road. Hope fully thy will pave it soon. He HE. Love to all Cindy

    Thanks
Thanks to everyone for bringing this up. My onc said Wednesday, "maybe in July", so am looking forward to that. I'll be seeing my surgeon again in July anyway so will check it out then. I either want mine out way before we go on vacation or not until we get back. Don't want to deal with stitches while traveling.
