You can do it!
I just finished rads 1 1/2 weeks ago. Best advice I got was to get men's white cotton undershirts and turn them inside out. They're soft on the burns (you have a while for that I hope - took me 5 weeks) and protect your clothes from the creams they give you for the burns. Pamper yourself every now and then! I made sure to go out for breakfast after my 8am treatment at least once a week. This time will fly by, even if you don't think so now. How extensive is your treatment? I had 5 fields plus the 5 days of booster to the scar area. One thing for sure, it takes longer to change into those lovely fashionable gowns than it does to get the treatment.
We'll all be with you in spirit and in prayer.0 -
You'll do it
I had 6.5 weeks--seemed like an eternity in the beginning, but you do get into a rhythm and before you know it, it is finished.
Now, 2 weeks out of rads, I'm still applying vitamin E to the scar area where I had 8 boosters, but the rest of my breast is no longer sore. I used an aloe leaf and would cut a hunk of it and apply it to the whole area starting about week 3. Before that, my rad onc would only let me use Aquafor which is a greasy mess. Someone on this board recommended buying a pack of cheap white t-shirts which is a good idea. Each day I brought a sweater that I would put on my shoulders after changing into the half "paper gown" because they keep the rads room pretty cold.
While not a cake walk, rads are doable just like chemo is--just another step in the journey.
Good luck

it really goes by fast. I looked at it as having to go to a job--but the good thing was--I only had to work about 15 minutes! I had about the same schedule and only got really red toward the end. As the other gals have stated, I slathered on Eucerin cream, pure 100% aloe vera (you can buy at the drug store) and Aquafor. When I used Aquafor I put one of my hubby's old white T's on because it's so greasy. I did not blister or peel.
You'll breeze through this. Best of luck.

it will go fast....promise
I know it sounds like an eternity...every day for so many weeks. But you end up falling into the pattern and it is just another part of your day...and then, WOW..it will be done!!! And...you will have completed another step in this journey. I know you can do it...use the creams they suggest, keep up a positive attitude, and we will all be waiting to hear the words from you "I am a Rad-Grad" Hugs0 -

Yes, you can do this! We are here to help you! Start your creams right from the start, if your rads oncologist says it is ok.
Good luck,

Just do it.
I suspect the hardest part is over. I am sure it will not be easy but probably better than what you have been through. Keep on keepin on.0 -

you will get through it! At first it seems daunting to go 5 days/week for so many weeks but it actually went by pretty fast. The fatigue does get progressively worse so sleep when you can. Also, use your cream faithfully. I didn't burn until my last 5 rads and only slightly. A few weeks later it tanned and peeled. I wish you well and look forward to your announcement that you're done!

This too shall be over quickly...right now it does not seem like it I know>I had a chart I made up of how many days I completed and one for how many days left..(I even kept and put in scrap book with MY radiation Badge etc. etc) I went 8 wks daily on my lunch hour (since my job started out being nice and changed with in 3 days) I found out journals helped...even though at the time I thought kind of goofy...but in hind sight I am glad I did jot things down!

I know that it seems like a long time, but, soon you will be a rad grad. Be sure and use your creams everyday and lots of them and get lots of rest as rads will wear you out.
Good luck!0 -

It does seem like a long time, but, I hope it will go very fast for you. After awhile it just becomes routine, like going to a job.
Keep us posted as to how you are.
