I found the recipe that was posted on another thread--It was Sharon_D who posted it and here it is:
Constipation. But if it happens, I have a recipe that is a real block buster! it's called POWER PUDDING for a reason!
2 cups pitted prunes
1 cup applesauce
1 cup Bran Cereal
enough prune juice to make pudding consistency
Blend it in a blender and eat 1 cup in the morning and 1 in the evening for a couple of days, or until it works. It's food so you can't over dose, but I don't recommend you go out the first day or so you start eating it. ;-)
To find this I went to the search box and typed in pudding and went to the second page.0 -
I have constipation and hemorrhoids also
I have had constipation and hemorrhoid problems also with the last few chemos....I had to take ducolax and then I ended up with diahrea...it is frustrating. I guess I am not drinking enough water right before my chemo and in the days afterwards. I have started eating berries in the morning, then applesauce and prunes during the day sometime. I eat bran flakes...you have to try to add some fiber to your diet and be conscious about it. What are you doing for your hemorrhoids? I have started sitting in a hot tub of water twice a day and like every other day or when it gets really bad I run a hot bath and pour some epson salt in it also. I also occasionally use annusol suppositories. I am anxious to know how you deal with yours. Thanks

I had a severe problem with constipation/diahrea. created a large rectal fissure the largest the colonrectal surgeon had seen. agony. I had sucha delicate balance between the the c/d it was hard while I was on chemo. once finished I leaned more toward constipation or harder stools, and I was having the surgery . Miralax helped me, it has a stool softener and laxative. I have to have it every night as I am still healing from the rectal surgery. also colace. increasing fiber, activia(I use stonyfield farm) with probiotics. there are some suppositiories that help hemorrhoids, I also use lidocaine cream from the doc. warm baths. dont sit on the toilet too long, no straining. I still take a bath religiously twice a day it increases blood flow to the area. tucks pads. I would use the miralax to get you going while increasing the fiber.pudding etc... and then transition to that. only because the stool has to come out but not be too hard or your bum is gonna be mad. Hope it all "comes out ok" Good luck and congrats on being done with chemo.0 -

Nursing homes use prune juice mixed with apple sause and butter that has been warmed. My sister has suffered with severe constipation for years and meds have never worked on her. But this is the only thing that she has found that works.0 -

I wish I had known this after my lumpectomy. I took Vicadin and needed some help. Finally, I just quit taking it. Saving this recipe! LOL0 -

Thank you both for your advice. Constipation and hemmorrhoids are very frustrating problems especially when you are already dealing with chemo and surgery, etc. I have been eating berries faithfully every morning and have added the prunes and applesauce so hopefully I am good to go. My last chemo is on 5/17 and I have to consciously make sure I drink alot more water this next week and maybe the constipation wont be an issue for this last treatment. If it does I will definitley have to try the prunes, applesauce and butter and heat them up and that sure sounds like it will work. Thanks and God bless!

The dreaded subject noone seems to want to talk about. Ha! Thanks for the recipe and the website. I am sure, at some time, we can all use this!0 -
I stew prunes, eat them and
I stew prunes, eat them and drink the juice. Throwing apricots in there with the prunes also helps. However I don't get bad constipation, my mother does. She does the prunes and in addition takes physilluim husk fiber each morning and night which helps her. This helped her during a two week stint on vicadin when she broke her wrist.
Good luck.0 -

This recipe was PERFECT~ thanks so much for posting it! I had been on Vicodin for 10 days and OMG, nothing was helping! I always drink water seemingly by the gallon anyway, I eat only whole grains and am practically a vegetarian by nature, but vicodin threw my system for a loop! I made the recipe last night, took 1, count 'em 1, tablespoon and this morning? Well my sweet Reggie laughingly says I am soooo not fulla s**t anymore! Gotta love that man! Keeps me laughing every day!
Thanks again! Power Pudding indeed!

Thanks for all the great advice ladies. I endured the "prune pudding" took the Senakot S with Colace and I'm doing better. I also drink tons of water and have been trying to get down as many fruits/veggies as I can. As far as the hemorrhoid problem, when they're raging, it's just a matter of trying to stay as comfortable as possible--they take their time resolving. One tip I have--seems to help me--when I wipe, after the first time, I have a container of unscented baby lotion nearby and use that on toilet paper for the last couple of wipes. So much softer and gentler than just plain tp. Good luck and many hugs to everyone.0 -

THANKS!!!
I started mixing 1 cup of All-Bran cereal, 1 Cup of Applesauce, and 3/4 cup of Prune Juice~ sorta the consistency of pancake batter~ eat a few tablespoons, drink PLENTY of water~ if it doesn't " move you " in a reasonable amount of time, repeat! Keep in the fridge, and make yourself believe that you are eating yummy spice cake batter! OK, I may be delusional, but it's better than being fulla crap! LOL Yes, pun intended!0 -
BAP
Equal parts of B- Bran A-Applesauce P-Prune juice. Mixed all together it looks like puddin.0
