bad news
So I went to see my doctor today to get my lab results from last weeks tumor extraction and got bad news. He said it is cancer and will give me a few weeks to heal before referring me to an Oncologist and having more tests done before starting chemo and radiation treatments. What can I expect from these as far as reactions or just wear and tear on the body. Also, what do some of you use to control nausea?

I am sorry you got these results. I had radiaion/chemo for 5 weeks during the summer of 2009. I found it mostly manageable, except for soreness from the radiation in the last few weeks + for a few weeks after radiation ended. I had good results on my 2 tumours though. Good luck to you!0 -

Until we know your chemo and or radiation, we can't really let you know what our reactions were as there are different types of chemos that one can be doing.
Let us know as soon as you know, okay?

Hector our thoughts and prayers are with you!
First, Hector our thoughts and prayers are with you!
What type of tumor, exactly where, and how large was the tumor are things you need to know.
Second, you need to interview oncologists to see whom you like.
What kind of treatment/care are they going to give you?
How easy are they to contact?
What is the time line for taking meds?
Will the oncologists work with your GP to help you with diet and vitamins?
Honestly I have taken just about every med for the nausea. Most of the meds have as bad of side effect as the nausea was to deal with. The diarrhea was the worst part for me. I tried several meds before I found the right combination for me. The headaches were also just another side effect and mostly contorllable with relaxation techniques.
Best Always, mike0 -

imagined...allow your body to rest when it needs to, and it will need to...expect anything from mild to major weight loss then regain afterwards...most of all, give yourself as much slack as you can, enjoy what you can, and take it very easy through this journey, it will bode well for you...no stress, no worry, simply go through the motions and all will be well.......buzz0 -

If the surgeon got the tumor out, did he say if he felt there was
more cancer that he couldn't extract, calling for the need for
chemical therapy and radiation treatments?
You are entitled to other opinions from qualified physicians,
and should do so before embarking on any life-changing
procedures. Consenting to -arbitrary- chemotherapy and/or
radiation isn't the best idea. If the treatments are called for,
fine.... But that isn't always the case, and a second opinion
from a surgeon that isn't part of the same organization would
be worth your time.
Chemo and radiation aren't the only options, nor are they always
the best options.
Good luck, and better health!

He stated he was unable to get all of it and I would need chemo and radiation before they knew if I would require more surgery. He wanted to schedule my first visit with the oncologist in 3 weeks which I feel is to far off. I've already contacted the doctors office myself to try and speed this up.
Thanks,
