    Mucus Attack
It slowly wears down after 3-4 weeks, I used a cup, and tissues, and hid it in my coat pocket, styro....I know gross, Mucus relief helps some, and the stand by water is the best, if not try the water with powder in the water bottles, it adds some flavor...some one also added that egg drop soup was great..Good Luck, It gets better. Hugs Dennis

    G’day Buzz
It might help to do a rinse once or twice a day. You can do a Sinus Rinse or just a mouth wash, I prefer the Sinus Rinse. I use a product call NeilMed Sinus Rinse, you can get it at places like Walgreen or CVS, or just the mouth wash using baking soda. Its all good and all helps

    Take care

I feel your pain on that
I feel your pain on that Buzz, and like Dennis said about 3-4 weeks :( I would have 'episdoes' where I'd just be gagging for like 10 minutes trying to get that stuff up (sexy I know lol) I think all of us went through that. Hang in there dear, it does get better I promise.

Mine lasted 3-4 months. I am such a slow healer. I was going thru a pack of 100 Vanity brand napkins a day. I tried mucinex but it dried me out too much and made me bleed more. It does go away eventually.

    Hi
How u doing sweet? I still have had no luck with contacting your Dcrs.
Were back in the wars and were going to have radiation:Whole neck and aesophog.
What causes the mucus? and how does having water ready help if one cant swallow?
I think i need a list of orrible effectsdand what u all did to relieve it.
I once started one , but lost it along the way.
What is mucinex and why did it make u bleed more?
All this wretched pain and burning: does it continue way after Radiation? or is this a really stupid question?(please answer my first question only)

    about the mucus
Well mine lasted up to 5 weeks after all treatments was all done then it started to get more and more less of mucus. I still have little bit of mucus when I wake up in the morning but after being up a hour or so it goes away.

Just drink alots of clear fluids.

    mucous
Thanks so much for the info. My husband is having such a hard time with mucous he is being treated for SCC , He is in his 3rd week of chemo & rad. I will ask his Dr. today about using mucomyst for help instead of the biotene. Anything I can do to help make this easier for him is worth a try.

    Mucous solution
    Hi
I strongly recommend a suction machine for the mucous. It lasted 4-5 weeks after last treatment, but once I got the machine, my vomiting went away, as I was not swallowing all that crap all the time. I did spit all day before the machine, and used boxes of tissues. Then one day, it stopped. Then I got dry mouth !! From one extreme to the other, but I remember the mucous was nasty to deal with all day long....
    good luck with it,
    Steve

    Months
My mucus lasted 2-3 months after my last treatment. I used a empty colored bottle to discretely spit into when outside. Something like a colored gatorade bottle, that way people don't see whats inside.

    'orrible mucous

So it appears that Mucous is down the line across the board for almost everyone on this site.
1-What actually is the cause of this and what happens if it doesnt originate in the lungs?
2-Then would mucomyst (acetylcysteine) be recommended/relevant?

3-Common side effects i see from a quick google search are: Cold, clammy skin; drowsiness; fever; inflammation of the mouth or tongue; nausea; runny nose; vomiting.

Well the above list sounds like everything we dont want to have, seeing that we already have a good dose of: drowsiness; fever; inflammation of the mouth or tongue; vomiting.

Someone recommended vinegar & water to break up mucouse. I dont want to risk my own life and suggest that my wife puts vineager on her parched mouth , tonge and lips!

    Hi Clear
I was thinking of you guys today. Your wife should be almost done now, I'm thinking?

The mucus is because the mouth dries out so much that the tissue gets so irritated and ends up forming mucus.

No vinegar. Not sure who recommended that. Baking soda, salt and water. Some people have had luck with mucinex, but that dried out my mouth too much and made it bleed more. Other people swear by the suction machines to help with the mucous.
