Dry Eyes Continue

Hi Peeps,
Saw my eye doctor today, my eyes are dryer than ever and the dryness is causing scratches on my corneas. Not good! I'm not so good with eye drops, they just don't work well at all, and I get most of the drops on my cheeks not my eyes, LOL. So my doctor put plugs in my tear ducts. Now besides being dry and sandpapery my eyes feel itchy, scratchy, and sore. I hope this resolves and helps the problem soon as I have no more patience for the @#$%@. Sorry about the rant. Just tired I guess, and my eyes hurt when I close them.

John, how are your eyes feeling?

Leslie

    dry eyes
    Hi,
I also have dry eyes. Had it a bit before treatment but now it's awful. I am using Restasis with some success but I have to supplement it with over the counter drops as well

I hope your discomfort stops soon! Maybe it takes a couple of days after the plugs are put in? I know someone who had plugs put in and they worked so well they had to make some kind of a change because she had too many tears! I don't know about you but right about now I would welcome that! haha

    Hope you feel better!

    Love
    Donna

    Dry Eyes
    Leslie,
My eyes are not as dry as they were, but they are still dry. I notice it more in the daylight than night light. Makes me wonder if the light is causing a lot of it. I wear sunglasses when I go outside now and they feel a lot better. I still use the Eye drops Sue recommended called Soothe and that helps. My eye Dr. recommended the plugs as well.Don't think I want that done. I feel it is all due to the chemo and since the dry skin has gotten better and the eyes feel better now I am hoping it will continue. Been out of treatment a little more than 6 months. I have horrible dry eyes too from the radiation I had and it seems to go in cycles with the tearing from the dryness. At its worst, like now, tears just literally fall out of my eyes over and over and it's embarassing in front of people. I have tried everything included some drops that are fairly new here in Canada, trying to remember they name of them now but if you use more than one or two as directed you can get a killer migraine. That happened to me because like you I kept thinking I was missing my eyes with the drop so would try again and I guess some got in each time and it was too much. You have to watch that medication, grrrrrrrrr chemobrain - can't think of the name of it. Apparently though it does work for lots of people. The opthamologist said that either I overdid the drops or I was just allergic to it so maybe it would work for you.
When I remember the name of the drug I will write you back and let you know.

My eyes itch and feel warm alot and sometimes I even get pains in the eyeballs themselves but like I said before they kind of come and go. I was just thinking the other day that the tearing hadn't been bad for awhile and tada it started the next day. Bummer.

Anywho hope you find some relief for it. I think surgery is possible for it but I don't want to do that unless it's totally necessary and unfortunately I think it's just one of the many side effects some of us have that we will just have to live with. I think I will buy shares in Kleenex, I think I all by myself keep them in business with this constant tearing. lol.

    Take care Leslie.

    Thanks
    Hi Bluerose,

Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts. Actually my eyes are very dry so too many tears are not a problem for me. But it must be really difficult for you with teary eyes. I think it would get in the way of reading and driving, not good. Actually, my eyes do tear in bright sunlight, very uncomfortable.

The plugs are now more comfortable and I am thankful for that. Just really difficult to remember not to rub my eyes, LOL. Chemo brain gets in the way.

Take care. Shares in kleenex sounds like a good idea.

    With love,

    Sunglasses
    Leslie,
Just for the heck of it try wearing sunglasses whenever you go outside. It makes a big difference for me. I don't know if the bright light causes problems due to the chemo or rads or not,but I never had any problems before the R-CVP. Besides that it makes me look like the cool stud that I am.LOL BIG JOHN STUD (FNHL-1-4A-5/10)

    The Stud!!!!!
    Leslie,
I got plans to be here for about 30 more years making the funny remarks. That is as long as the Chemo brain doesn't stop me. I really feel the humor helps a lot of people feel a little better if even for a little while. I know it does me. Every so often I see one of the members will make a wise crack about something and it makes me smile.I will never forget the "gas passer". I was waiting to jump on that one. Even though I make a little humor don't ever think I don't worry about this crap. Remember the duck on the pond? That duck is me in a nutshell. Oh heck the sun just went down and now I have to take my sunglasses off. :). John

Dry eyes are the reason for overtearing
That's the reason i have such alot of tears, super dry eyes so my tear ducts pump out too many tears. i guess if you don't have tears that just adds to it but anyway you cut it it's a bummer.

I actually, on my own, gave up driving for that reason, tearing was too bad and dangerous if it just started up and blurred my vision. Ya sun is hard on my eyes and even just daylight in the house is enough to start it up.

Very difficult to overcome. Still trying to remember the name of that eye drop that helps alot of people with overtearing/dry eyes.

    Take care.

    Dry eyes
    Bluerose,
I have been using Soothe that I bought at Walmart for a few months now. It works great. One of the members recommended it. John
