realization that I have cancer

in Thyroid Cancer #1
I didn't start researching anything until my cousin was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I have had a rare hurthle cell cancer since 2005. Her Drs treatments were different than mine. Her Dr. is in Houston Texas and mine in South Carolina. My Dr. never did bloodwork before or after my scans. She never mentioned a low iodine diet. This scan at the end of April will be the first that I will do the LID (not per her instructions), however she is doing labs before the thyrogen injections start and then the day before my scan is done. Even though I am having thyrogen injections she stated I needed to stop the synthroid prior to the week long event. Sorry about the rambling, she did prescribe a beta blocker does anyone else take one? If so does it help?

    humm...
    yes the LID is important... i confirmed with my Endochronologist and he told me that i can keep my synthroid going but the LID is a must to get accurate readings...

    He told me that for this scan I only need to be on LID for 7 days prior for this scan 1 year out.

    of the 6 people local to me with thyroid cancer none of us are on Beta blockers but myself and 2 others are on anti depressants.

    It does Craig, thank you! I was always told not to worry, it's the most curable cancer and you are lucky that if you have to have cancer that it's this.....well I am so lucky to have found this discussion board and such a wonderful support group....:)

    I think it's strange that she would give you a Beta Blocker. Synthroid takes two weeks to get out of your system so you shouldn't have heart arrhythmia after stopping for one week. I have never taken any but I did thyrogen without having to stop my meds. Maybe Hurthle cell is different though.

    Good luck with the scan. I hope all goes well and there is not traces of the cancer.

    Hi Lynne,

    I was prescribed Toprol, a Beta Blocker for blood pressure; mine has continually climbed since my surgery.

    I'm not sure if this helps but thought I would share my reason for taking this med.

    I am so happy to have found this site. It is nice to know I am not by myself. In many of the postings, I have read about most of what (I thought) were my weird unrelated symptoms.
    I was recently diagnosed with Hurthle cell and had been prescribed beta blockers several months before for arythmia. At the time my doctor was not aware of my cancer and only prescribed it to treat a sympton with no idea why I had the palpitations. I did not take the beta blockers since I did not have a diagnose for my heart so I can't tell you if it will help or not.

    I have normal to low blood pressure, but she mainly gave it to me to even out my moods and panic attacks around my cycle. I have not taken it as I have been worried it would make it too low at other times. Looks like I will have to reschedule my scan a third time as my temp job is lasting longer than I expected so it will be the beginning of May before I get it done....

    I really hate it when doctors say things like this. Yes there is a high survibility rate but it dosn't make it easy or a lucky thing.
