I never did a blood transfusion but my Aunt had to do them a lot, she would go in looking like death and come out looking like a totally different person.

I just hope they aren't knocking out her bone marrow. I would be raising hell at this. Has she ever had low counts before? This is serious because of her FA. If it was me I would be making a lot of noise right now and asking a lot of questions.
Are they stopping rads at all?0 -

Her HB counts were at 8.8. Then it went up to 9.3 yesterday . THey said that it should be 10 for RT purposes, hence the transfusion. Also PLT were at 78.
She has 9 days of RT left to complete her 35.
Am really worried about Fanconi healing or non healing issues.
Also, got to keep reminding myself that this is not about the Rads itself. Its about the results that Rads are supposed to achieve. A frightening thought ( and i admit not a positve one) that the Rads might not to the job entirely , ie destroy thetumors (neck & aesophog completely.
Also that little spot on the lung needs radiating too. THe fun never ends.
Just before we started Rads she saw some white flattish looking swhite skin thing on her tonge. The onco took a quick look at it and said , no its not cancer, its more than likely trauma from her tounge rubbing on her bottom teeth. Anyway her tonge is such a mess now that who would know the difference.
I know that this psot of mine isnt exactly the party dance, but this year has been such a orrible one for Fanconi community.
THANK Gd , that SB is kicking and srtutting the strut and leading the way to great things.
Clear.
ps: what actually causes all that phlegm and how did you say one stops the phlegm and mucouse that shes coughing constantly?0 -

Time.......and lots of Kleenex & patience.
I got a suction machine and it helped me 100%. I spit in a kleenex every 10 minutes before this was an option. I was 4-5 weeks out of treatment before the mucous went away. It is there to help the mouth heal. I think it's the body's way of trying to help.
No secret answer, sorry,

I had seven transfusions during my treatment. My blood counts were all over the place. I am naturally anemic from a childhood surgery. But protocol stated that when counts reach a certain level, and they were sticklers about it. energy levels etc for me didn't change and counts rarely changed, I believe the highest RBC I ever got was 10.5 am a normal 9.
the mucous thing similar to Steve, suction machine here also and baking soda/salt solution helped a little
Wishes & Prayers for you and your wife
