Has anybody on this site ever had supraglosttis cancer?

    I was diagnosed in May '09 with SCC Supraglotic laryngeal cancer, staged T3N0M0.

    Is this the same as laryngeal cancer?

    Thanks for responding. My husband has this cancer, he is getting 33 rad treatments and I think 12 cemo treatments. He has 2 more cemo treatments and 10 more rad treatments. He has had the port put in and has had a track also a g-tube. He has sugar and has had a liver transplant 11 years ago. So he has been through a lot. He was just wondering after all of these treatments do you think this cancer will be gone? After the treatments what does he do then? Does he have more test done? He wishes he did not have to have the track, but they had to put it in because he stopped breathing in the hospital when then were putting in the port. So the doctors are just saying that they are treating it aggressively. He has some swelling in his neck and he is having some problems breathing, so I am giving him breathing treatments. He tried to take predisone but his sugar went real high and had to stop taking that. j

    How long did it take you to get well? How many rad treatments and cemo treatments did you take?

    I had 35 rad treatments and 6 chemo (cisplatin), the chemo was intravenous and done twice weekly in 3 week cycles. I was also being treated for lung cancer at the same time. I had almost completely lost my voice and within a few days of my first chemo treatment my voice was back to normal.

    I am 17 months post treatment for the lung cancer and 18 months post for the laryngeal cancer and I'm doing fine as far as the laryngeal cancer goes. The lung I'm not sure of yet as they found another lesion during my last CT scan. I saw my ENT every month for the first year and he scoped my neck, now I see him every 2 months for the same procedure. My check ups have been good so far and he sees no abnormalities.

    I did not have a port or trach but did have a feeding tube which for me was a life saver. Food tasted horrible so I lived off the feeding tube for several weeks. I can now eat most foods and my taste has come back 85 to 90%. I still suffer from dry mouth and sip water constantly but I can deal with that.

    My doctors will not say "cured" (most won't) but they have told me that I'm in remission. What stage is your husband's cancer and what type of chemo are they giving him? I do not have any of the other health problems that your husband has so his chemo may be different than mine.

    Tell your husband to stay strong and hang in there, the treatment is rough but the outcome is good. After his treatment is finished he will have several weeks, possibly a few months of recovery. You will not notice the changes daily or possibly even weekly but he will slowly improve and life will be good again.

    Please keep us posted on how your husband and you are doing so we can help you through the rest of his treatment and recovery. Also, be kind to yourself, caregiving is a tough job but you have to take care of yourself also.

    Hi, Thanks for responding. My husband has had erbitux cemo treatments I think 12 also 23 rad treatments. He has 12 more rad treatments to go. Then I guess we go to all the test again when they found out he had this cancer. He seems to be doing good right now, he hates the track! He wants to get back to eating food again! That it is thing that he misses for sure! Sue
