Daily Replacement Hormone?
Ive been on 400 mcg for four or five years and before was around 200 with my blood tests coming back saying i needed more but my first doctor was very slow to increase it.

My endocrinologist told me this is mostly based on weight. He didn't say, but from talking to others, it seems it takes a persons system a little while to settle down once it becomes hypothyroidal and synthroid/levothyroxine is taken. A friend whose thyroid just shut down on him some years ago said he started at 200 mcg, went as high as 225 mcg and seems to have stabilized at 175 mcg.
As for me, I had a total thyroidectomy 2/8/11 and was immeadiately put on 175 mcg. I normally weigh around 160# and this dose is supposed to make me slightly hyperthyroidal. I seem to be exhibiting symptoms of hypothyroidism, but I'm not scheduled for a hormone level blood test until 3/22. The endocrinologist wants to see how I'm doing after six weeks of 175 mcg, apparently wanting me to stabilize some.
Did you jump straight from 200 mcg to 400 mcg?0 -
the initial level is based
the initial level is based on your weight.. then they adjust it to get you to the right levels
Myself i was on 250 Synthroid but on the 10th of this month i have swaped to a combo
I am now on 200 synthroid and 25 cytomel. From the reserch I have read this should help give me more energy and hopefully help me loose weight.
Yes the docs seem slow on wanting to change things.

Yeah i jumped straight from 200 to 400, he kept track of me and made sure i didnt have any side efects from overdoes but its been there since the change. Also i am only 210 pounds so i can imagine why they started me on just 200 or whatever it was, forgot now.
Yeah that is me, how is ur young friend doing?0 -

he is doing well. he has been stable but of course check ups every 6 months to a year are very nerve wrecking and you never know. I am glad you are well. Did your tg drop to low levels?0 -
