I need your help

You all are alway full of such wonderful information and I need you help. My brother in Law who is from Michigan just notified us that he was dx with small cell lung cancer. This all began in May. He has been throgh 2 different chemo treatments. One made him very sick. Not sure of the drug.I asked him about antinausea drugs and all they gave him was sofran. Currenty he is on Taxol and is under going rads. He is on cobra, but only for 18 months. He has a wife and a child to worry about. His wife works but does not earn a lot of money. He is very depressed. He hates the medical center he is with. He said it's very dirty and he does not like the doctors.He said they even drop needles on the floor and think nothing of it. He said he can't even be sure he is getting the best treatment. There are better hospitals around, but he is afraid to go because of no money and the place he is at is picking up the cobra payment for him or he would not be able to pay that. I told him about this site and to go to the lung cancer, but you guys for me are the best and I know you will come up with an answer for us. This just really sucks. My husband just lost 3 years ago one of his younger brothers to a sudden heart attack, and now this is another younger brother, the one right under Dave. Glad I have you all, Hugs

    Has he checked into if he qualifies for disability insurance, this would allow him to go to a different care center and perhaps get better care. Also, if it were me I would look into other centers anyway, many take cobra he may have to do some research but it would be worth it. I cannot imagine getting care where needles are dropped on the floor and it is considered to be "just fine". I know this is not the best of info. it is just what comes to mind, hope he finds the help he is searching for. I wish him better health on the horizon.

    Not knowing where in Michigan he is located, the first place that comes to mind is the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio...they have a fantastic reputation...I do know that Taxol is given for small cell lung cancer...Hopefully, if he can't switch centers, he or someone can be an advocate for him regarding his anti nausea drugs...most centers have social workers available...it's hard to speak up when one is sick.

    If he can qualify for soc sec disability
    He will also qualify for Medicare. My heart goes out to him and his family.

    I'm from Michigan
    I received excellent care from the Hickman Cancer Center in Adrian, MI. Adrian is located between Toledo and Ann Arbor...and about 60 minutes from the Detroit area.

    You might want to check that out. Hopefully other Michiganders will respond where they received their treatments.

    I hope it all works out for him and his family!
