Update on my dad and prayer requests

My dad (age 66, stage 3 EC) finished his 5th and last week of radiation last week. He has not been able to eat recently, but thankfully has the J tube to help. Over this past weekend, he also began having trouble swallowing. He is severely fatigued, and sleeps almost all day and night. He went this morning for his weekly doctor visit/blood work and they had him admitted to the ICU due to his white blood cell count (almost zero) and also low red blood cell count. He had the low white blood cell count occur a few weeks ago and was in the hospital for 4 days due to that. He has a CT scan set for Wednesday (not sure if that will change with his hospitalization or not and is supposed to meet with the surgeon on Friday to see if the tumor shrunk, etc. and he will be considered operable. Please pray the answer is yes.

On top of that, my mom and I had to take their ten year old dog - their baby - to be put down last week. It's been a horrible, horrible time for them - and all of us. She was definitely part of the family.

To make matters worse, my father in law had his 3rd heart attack over the weekend and will be having open heart surgery in the next day or two.

Not sure how much more I can handle on my plate right now...praying for strength and that we get some good news our way very soon. Additional prayers would be much appreciated.

Thank you all....

    Prayers coming your way!!
    Dana,

I am so sorry that your Dad is having this challenge after persevering through the side effects of chemotherapy. Hopefully they can provide medication in the hospital to bring his blood counts back to an acceptable level.

Sometimes it seems like these things all come at once. My Mom used to say “bad news arrives in threes” I hope this means you are now done with bad news.

I will be praying that God provides you and your family with good news in the coming days.

    Best Regards,

    Praying for You!
So, so sorry Dana. I know it's overwhelming. And you're probably wondering if God really expects you to be able to handle all that's happening to you! Just remember, HE will carry you through. HE is in control, even when we feel like things are totally out of control. HE is enough. Hang on to HIS promises and HIS hand. HE is there with you. You WILL and CAN get through ANYTHING with HIS help.

Praying for and giving you a BIG Cyber Hug!!!

    When it rains it pours
You have way too much on you plate right now. I would love to know how to give it all up to Jesus to carry..still learning that one.

Does your Dad get a shot after his treatments? Tom gets his chemo...and then a shot for white blood cells build up..he gets the shot locally but everything else is done at the u of c...we didn't like the facilities locally...not at all. He sees Dr. Villafor and Dr. Campbell when he goes for his chemo. Unless it's very serious and sudden he would be admitted to the u of c...

Does your dad get hydration for two days after his chemo? Tom did and it helped.

During his onslaught of chemo...nothing tasted good including water and he was exhaused..that got better when the chemo and radiation stopped...we went to Vegas and Alaska last year and then to see the grandkids..he golfed all summer til it snowed.

Now I don't know...everything is stable..but of course we want it gone...

I will keep in your family in my prayers as I do each day.

I sure wish could have a magic wand to wave this all away...
