Best wishes with the procedure...I'll be curious how the RFA to lung differes from the RFA to the liver. Looking forward to hearing back from you with an "all is well."

    Lung RFA
No luck needed, Mike! You are going to do fine and when you come out you are going to be blown away with how easy the ordeal is! I know, I know... everyone is different and it depends on where in the lung they have to reach... but, I can say with all sincerity, when I had mine done and wasn't sure what to expect... I was in, had it done, spent a bit of time in recovery (I had a General anesthetic because of where they had to reach), had expected to be in the hospital overnight because of the GA, but was wide awake once I came out. So they "observed" me for a couple of hours, and then sent me home that same day. Had it not been for the GA, I would have been sent home about 4 hours earlier :)

When I did get home... I had no problem taking the dog out for a walk. Appetite was fine. No pain, no discomfort... nothing. I just wasn't allowed to drive myself for 24 hours, not because of the RFA, but because of the anesthesia. And now I was down one problematic tumour :)

Let us know how you do when you get home!

Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers. The procedure went well so I am told. It turned out they used Microwave frequency instead of Radio Frequency. Does this make it a "MFA"?

I was sent home the same day which was a very good indicator. The only hitch is I cannot fly for a few days. I have a flight on March 23rd to San Diego where I will begin my new career and life on the beach. Wish me well, I need to get flight clearance.

All in all the RFA (MFA) procedure was minimally invasive and relatively easy. I would generally say that if it is an option for you "go for it". It gets rid of the beast quickly.

    Question
    HI Mike,

Glad to hear it went well! Was it on a lung nodule that you had the RFA (MFA) done? I think so, but forgot for sure. It seems to me that RFA is more of an east coast thing & that they don't do it as often here. I know awhile back when I was talking to the onc and surgeon at UCSD, they acted like they don't do RFA much anymore & said that surgery or cyberknife would be more recommended. Unfortunately, I wasn't a candidate for any of those, so I really didn't pursue it or ask any more questions. I still don't really know why or if that's even what all oncs around here think. It may be more of an individual case by case thing.

Anyhow, glad you've done it and it's behind you and excited for you for your move and new life here in San Diego!

    Take care,
    Lisa
