We found a pot hole in the road...

Less then 24 hours after discharge, Steve is back in the hosp. Seems he has a bleed in his gut somewhere. He went in with a hemoglobin of 6.2 and dehydrated. We started noticing some symptoms of this before discharged and question it, but it was dismissed as residual blood from surgery. The weakness and tiredness we were contributing to surgery was actually partially due to bloodloss and dehydration.
Today after 4 units of blood and hydration he is like a new man! Wow what a difference! He even has that familiar sparkle in his eye.
They did one test on him today but nothing showed, so the bleeding is still a mystery for now. They have the jtube draining into a bag and it is not pretty stuff coming out. We feel the bleed is above that jtube in the gut somewhere. We arent sure where the docs are going from here. But one thing I know for sure is they arent letting him out until they fix it.
My gut told me something was up, so to all caregivers out there....listen to that gut feeling!!
Prayers to all
Nancy

    Thinking of You
    Hi Nancy,

I am so glad that Steve is in the hospital Nancy. That is where he needs to be right now. It is good he got blood and IV fluids. I hope and pray that they find the source of the bleed. It is good you were diligent and trusted your instincts and got him in to the hospital. This journey can really be rocky!

Take care of yourself and get rest so you can take care of Steve when he gets out of the hospital.

congrats on being a good caregiver
Glad they got Steve back in. Your gut was right and always follow it. That is the most important thing for a caregiver, to keep saying something is not right till they listen. So glad they were able to give him the blood and hope they find out where the blood was coming from. Glad Steve has the sparkle back into his eyes. take care, prayers for all.

Steve is in the right place for now....
    Nancy,

I am sure Steve has mixed feelings about being back in the hospital. He is probably glad they have found the problem and provided some relief, but frustrated because he is back in the hospital rather than recovering in the comfort of his own home.

Sounds like Steve is in the right place for now so they can monitor his fluids and outputs and get a handle on where the problem needs to be addressed.

Sometimes it’s two steps forward and one step backward.

I will be praying they find the problem quickly and the solution is quick and straightforward.

    Thank you
Thanks for all your prayers. We are home again. We really didnt get a definate idea on exactly where the bleed was coming from, but surgeon sure it was from the stomach. His blood is holding for now and he is well hydrated. We just got to keep it that way. He really seems better all around, physically and mentally, for now we are going forward. Thanks again.
