FBI problems / no fingerprints.

So in January I was fingerprinted at the Sheriff's Department for my volunteer work with Civil Air Patrol. Over and over and over, she tried. Finally she said she got enough of a percentage that she was sure they would accept it. NOPE.

Just a warning to new members, 5 FU (part of FOLFOX) removes fingerprints. I completed chemo 19 months ago! I believe I read that Xeloda can, too. To travel abroad, some people have had to get doctor's letters. The FBI won't accept a letter but they will 'hand read/ approve' if I fail another fingerprinting. Oh, and I have to PAY for each new printing.

Meanwhile, I'm thinking 'Thomas Crown Affair'.... ;0)

    OMG are you kidding me????
    I got a new laptop after my surgery because I could not sit in a chair at the computer desk it Hurt way to much. So the laptop allowed me to do work while lying on my side during recovery. This computer has a fingerprint saftey option that I set up right away long before I started my mop-up folfox. I am almost done with my treatments (2 more). I could not for the life of me figure out why for the last 6 weeks or so I can not open up my lap top. Some days I would spend 30 minutes running my finger across the window praying it would read. I thought it was defective I could not delete the option (not very computer savy)so I stopped shutting it off and now I just close the top and suspend the operation.

    I had no clue about the fingerprint side effect, never heard about it!!!!

    But it's not uncommon for me to learn something new from the CSN boards. My doctor keeps me in the dark about all side effects.

    WOW Diane thanks for clearing that up for me. and if you know how I can change this option on my laptop share that with me also LOL!!!! I feel like such a dope DUH !!!!!

    Troubles
    I was having trouble at gas pumps, choosing which gas and at Walmart with the onscreen key pads but never thought it would get this bad. Portions of each finger still have some print left, but not enough, evidently. I don't know if they'll return. I never had peeling or cracked hands. My fingers were very sensitive and my feet itched but never peeled. I did all 6 months of FOLFOX.

    There's news stories on a man who lost his fingerprints after taking Xeloda but not much else.

    Whenever I need to learn something new to do with computers, I go to Virtual Doctor and choose my computer (we have 4). The guys there will answer questions (FREE) and even walk you through how to do new things.

    I read this a few times before and I can tell that my fingertips are nice and smooth though I haven't tried to have a fringerprint. Thanks for telling your experience because I'm sure there are others that will find out the hard way if they don't have a heads up.

    I have lots of experience fingerprinting if you try again, soak your fingers in water for about 10 minutes, that will help. After reading your post I started looking at my fingers as I have had both 5FU and Xeloda, but I was printed the other day for a new ID badge and I was fine.

    Wow! I didn't know that at ALL....
    So, I looked....I'm 6 years out from 5 FU, and have some, but not all, of my prints....my thumbs are sketchy at best...wow! No wonder they wanted to deport me in Amsterdam...ROFL!

    As far as the fingerprints on the computer...hummm....I'll look!

    I'll try that Beth.... I'm going again on Monday. I had them done in November and just got notification yesterday that the FBI refused them. It's done on a computer scanner and mine kicked out repeatedly (in November) until the deputy said she got enough to pick and choose, mix and match.

    I read up and saw where I can send a letter with an explanation if I'm missing digits or have a deformed digit. I wrote a letter with the name of my doctor and his contact information. If I fail again, the FBI will assign it to someone who will manually read my prints.

    It worked!
    I used hand lotion all weekend and then soaked my fingers like Beth said and only my left thumb had to be redone today. The deputy thinks this submission will be fine.

    Chemo today.
    Just got back from chemo (1 more and im mopped up) I asked my Onc about the fingerprint thing and of coarse he had no Idea what I was talking about. But That doesnt surprise me other than the neropothy in the feet it seemed he hadnt heard about any of my side effects. This is a fine Boston Onc ???? Some say we have some of the best???

    You already know my fingerprints were long gone after starting chemo. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why I couldn't log on to my timecard at work. I had to write manual timesheets for my boss until I figured out one day that it was my fingerprints. Obviously, my fingerprints would no longer work on our omnicell (narcotic/drug machine) at work. I could manually punch in my employee number and password, but the fingerprint thing is so much faster. They are finally back, and although I haven't told my boss so she can update the employee timeclock, I'm glad I don't have to log in with an employee number and password to do my job. :)

    WooHoo!!

    I also wonder if a little acid won't bring the prints up like a citric acid. Lemon, orange, lime or grapefruit. :) I know at the sheriffs office they use water to get them to appear on the screen during booking. :)
