Hospitals/surgeons lung spots

Hi , I have been reading with interest about the lung procedures (RFA). I had scans recently that revealed 2 spots on lungs..Does anyone have hospital/surgeon to recommend in SC?NC or Ga? Thanks for any help. (dx 2009 rectal stage III ) have had chmo/radiation--surgery(j pouch/ostomy) more chemo-- November reconnection surgery -
Thanks for any suggestions.Elizabeth

    RFA procedures
    Hi Elizabeth,

Being that I'm up North of the border, I don't have any recommendations for you but my advice would be to talk to your oncologist. Find out where the spots are on the lung(s). For instance, if they are both on the same lung and close together, depending on the size, they might be able to remove them with one procedure. But it also depends on the size of them and the location in the lung. Some parts of the lung are much easier to access with the RFA needle and others are not reachable. I can't remember if the spots have to be a particular size. If they are too small, then the radiologist would more than likely recommend waiting because it would be impossible to get the needle into them.

If an RFA is doable, then your oncologist will know which radiologists in your area specialize in the lung RFA procedure. Not every radiologist can do them. Good luck... and keep us posted!

    Did a little surfing........
found this.........Florida would be somewhat close I think....

    Radiofrequency Ablation
    for Lung Cancer

Radiofrequency (RF) ablation may be a nonsurgical alternative for select patients who have cancers that are limited in size and few in number. Tumors should be separate from vital structures in the body for this treatment to be considered. RF ablation for lung cancer is offered at Mayo Clinic in Florida and Minnesota.

RF ablation may help patients with lung cancer who are not candidates for traditional surgery due to advanced disease in the lungs, poor cardiac function and/or poor pulmonary function. It may be offered to patients with lung cancer after they have been evaluated by a thoracic surgeon and a radiation oncologist for other therapies.

.....peace and hope for you elizabeth.............buzz
